GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 36th annual MAC Tools NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run: Left Lane: Jack Wyatt Runs 5.654/190.15, Now #12; No Prior Run Right Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 4.815/310.77, Now #3; Best prior run: 11.442/75.03, Was #18 Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 43 percent, barometer 29.95 inches, adjusted altitude 929 feet, track temperature 99 degrees. Scelzi is able to get the
car to hook up and blast on through the 1320 to get in the top half of the show. Wyatt was on a
good pass until about half track when the engine started eating itself up. Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.887/304.56, Now #5; Best prior run: 11.053/74.25, Was #19 Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 9.457/92.50, Now #18; Best prior run: 9.120/89.17, Was #17 Creasy is dropping cylinders right from the start and does not improve. Arend gets the Goodyears to stick and makes a good looking pass. Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.948/255.89, Now #8; Best prior run: 9.047/101.66, Was #17 Right Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 4.962/258.69, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.926/315.90, Was #7 Bartone was on a good looking pass until about 1100 feet and that is where he disappeared into a big cloud of smoke. He must of blew up the engine. Hight with problems on the top end as he slowed, too. Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 10.679/97.67, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.508/283.46, Was #13 Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.967/302.41, Now #9; Best prior run: 12.036/64.24, Was #20 Densham is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle. Head with a nice pass while he was moving around a lot on the top end. Left Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 4.866/304.15, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.186/121.72, Was #16 Right Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 5.411/201.20, Now #15; Best prior run: 10.954/123.67, Was #20 Gilbertson blisters the tires around half track and lifts. Johnson Jr. with a real nice looking pass to get off the bump and into the top half of the show. Left Lane: Phil Burkart Runs 16.877/35.96, Now #19; Best prior run: 8.213/103.60, Was #19 Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 8.951/93.07, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.014/259.14, Was #11 Burkart was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle and is down to one shot to get into the show. Wilkerson loses traction around the 300-foot mark. Left Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 6.662/126.58, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.563/115.65, Was #18 Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.834/313.91, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.074/245.23, Was #13 Tony Pedregon with a real nice looking pass, second quickest of the session. Frank Pedregon used up an engine on the top end and there is oil on the track. Left Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 5.155/268.65, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.232/214.54, Was #14 Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.945/308.11, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.902/321.65, Was #8 Bazemore strike the tires just past half track, but still has his best pass of the weekend. Capps keeps the Goodyears stuck, but does not improve on yesterday's pass. Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.865/302.31, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.016/222.66, Was #13 Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.856/286.89, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.775/329.42, Was #2 This was a good looking side-by-side drag race. Force's engine started mixing up cylinders from around 1000 feet on. Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.881/312.71, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.848/306.33, Was #5 Right Lane: Eric Medlen Runs 4.850/305.60, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.773/326.08, Was #1 This was another good looking drag race. Two nice passes to end the session.
