GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 36th annual MAC Tools NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run: Left Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 9.120/89.17, Now #1 Right Lane: Jack Wyatt No Time, Now #2 Weather conditions: air temperature 58 degrees, relative humidity 50 percent, barometer 29.85 inches, adjusted altitude 143 feet, track temperature 58 degrees.
Creasy with his first pass this year and he got to about 200 feet when he lost traction and threw
the blower belt off. Wyatt lost traction as soon as he hit the throttle and came to a stop at
about 150 feet. Left Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 4.926/315.90, Now #1 Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 12.748/66.29, Now #3 Arend lost traction right off the starting line. Bartone with nice looking pass. Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 5.014/259.14, Now #2 Right Lane: Gary Densham Runs 5.508/283.46, Now #3 Densham started to lose traction and pedaled it one time. Wilkerson with a great looking pass until about 1000 feet and then he started to lose traction. Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 12.607/60.18, Now #5 Right Lane: Frank Pedregon No Time, Now #8 We just had a special unveiling of Pedregon's Don Garlits tribute car, and Summit has signed on as an associate sponsor with Frank's tribute car. Then Pedregon blew it up as soon as he hit the throttle and coasted to a stop around 200 feet. Head lost traction right off the starting line and coasted on through the 1320. Left Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 14.541/45.62, Now #8 Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 10.991/75.48, Now #5 Worsham started to lose traction and got out of the groove before he lifted. Gilbertson lost traction as soon as he hit the throttle. Left Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 11.442/75.03, Now #7 Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 9.047/101.66, Now #4 Hight with a lot of tire shake and pedaled it one time only to shake again and clicked it off. Scelzi lost traction right off the starting line and clicked it off. Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 5.074/245.23, Now #4 Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 5.016/222.66, Now #3 Cruz Pedregon was on a really good pass until about 1000 feet when his parachute came out and slowed him. Brother Tony was also on a good pass, but started eating the engine up and then had a fireball as he crossed the finish line. Left Lane: Eric Medlen Runs 7.807/110.42, Now #6 Right Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 12.138/68.85, Now #11 Both cars with a lot of tire chatter right off the starting line and Medlen pedaled it one time, but couldn't get it to hook up. Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 15.715/69.46, Now #16 Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 7.186/121.72, Now #6 Capps lost traction right off the starting line a coasted on through the 1320. Johnson Jr with a lot of tire shake right off the starting line and then got back on to the throttle, but lost traction and was out of the groove before he clicked it off. Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.928/319.94, Now #2 Right Lane: Phil Burkart Runs 12.022/75.91, Now #13 Force started to lose traction and pedaled it one time and then blasted on through for the number two spot. Burkart lost traction right off the starting line and clicked it off.
