LINCOLNTON, N.C. -- Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster crew chief Wayne Dupuy continues to make progress in his recovery from injuries suffered in a single-car accident two weeks ago.

Dupuy was severely injured in an accident near his home early the morning of Nov. 27. Dupuy lost control of his Ford Mustang on Highway 150 and was ejected from the vehicle, breaking his spine, pelvis, and left eye socket. He also suffered multiple abrasions.

He spent time in the Carolina Medical Center trauma ward of the Intensive Care Unit before he was he was upgraded to serious but stable that afternoon.

The tuner was moved to a rehabilitation room on Monday, something that driver Doug Herbert takes for a very positive sign.

"He's getting better everyday," Herbert said. "They moved him to the rehabilitation center on Monday, which is a great sign. (Wednesday) he walked quite a bit on his own, he fed himself breakfast and lunch and that was really good. He has to learn some things all over again, but he's getting it. He's talking better and he has just made a lot of improvement. It's just going to take time, but he's doing better every day and he's finally starting to get into a routine.

Dupuy tunes the Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster of Lincolnton-based drag racer and four-time IHRA champion Herbert. He recently tuned Herbert to a 4.441-second quarter-mile elapsed time, making Herbert the third quickest man in the history of the sport. Dupuy, 41, moved to the Charlotte area six months ago from Jacksboro, Texas along with his wife Tressa and their three children Jessica, Hillary, and Zach.
