LINCOLNTON, N.C. -- Doug Herbert is one of just a few NHRA drivers to join in one of the most celebrated holiday charity drives for children in North Carolina.

Herbert and a large group of NASCA drivers, announcers, legends and personalities will be hosting Stocks for Tots charity drive Tuesday at the Lakeside Business Park in Mooresville. The charity drive will start at 6 p.m. with intentions of raising money for children, awareness of child abuse while collecting toys at the same time.

The driver of the Snap-on Tools/Doug Herbert Performance Parts Top Fuel dragster has helped Stocks for Tots in their quest to aid children several times.

"They have a big festival that celebrates the holidays and families, but most importantly, it helps bring awareness to a very important topic," Herbert said. "I have three children and as a parent I will do anything to make sure child abuse is stopped. If we can help some less fortunate children have some holiday happiness at the same time, everyone wins." The event will feature Herbert alongside some of the biggest names in motorsports including Bobby Allison, Matt Kenseth, Rusty Wallace and Ryan Newman. NHRA drivers Bob Gilbertson and Greg Anderson will also be on hand to support the charity event.

"I think it's great that a few NHRA drivers are there because it is such a great cause and if we can help bring in more motorsports fan, I'm all for it," Herbert said. "One of the things I like most about being involved with motorsports is the fans. Racing fans are very family oriented and they always come together to help each other and especially children. This event has a big turnout for a lot of great reasons."

Stocks for Tots started in 1989 and has since raised more than $350,000 and distributed more than 30,000 Christmas toys to children in the Charlotte and surrounding areas. The money raised goes to the National Exchange Club Foundation, a group committed to the prevention of child abuse. It also helps SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) which provides education in hopes of raising awareness to the problem of child abuse.
