Wed, 2 Nov 2005, 07:31 PM Beckman Seeking Full-Time Fuel Ride in 2006

NORTH HILLS, Calif. -- After fulfilling his 12-race obligation as the driver of Dexter Tuttle's Menards Top Fuel dragster at this weekend's Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, driver Jack Beckman will leave the team in order to begin pursuing a full-time fuel ride on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing tour in 2006, it was announced today.

"I am very grateful to Dexter Tuttle, crew chief Jimmy Walsh and the rest of the team for helping me to fulfill my dream of racing in Top Fuel and giving me a competitive car to drive," said Beckman, a former NHRA national champion in Super Comp and a 2005 nominee for the prestigious Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Road to the Future award. "I gained a lot of valuable experience this year and now I hope to continue my career with a full-time ride in Top Fuel or Nitro Funny Car in 2006."

"Now that Jack has 12 races under his belt, our strategy is to put him into a car that will compete at all 23 NHRA races and contend for a POWERade championship," added Rodger Comstock of Mail Terminal Services, who will remain a supporter of Beckman's efforts. "We are currently looking at various options for 2006."

Beckman has qualified for all 11 races thus far in 2005. He reached the semifinals of the K&N Filters Super Nationals in Englishtown and ran a career best 4.56 at the Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd. He is currently ranked 16th in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel points standings.
