GLENDORA, Calif. -- Accor North America has extended its partnership with NHRA, highlighted by Motel 6 being named the "Official Motel of NHRA."
In addition, Motel 6 will maintain its presence on site at each NHRA national event as title sponsor of NHRA's big screen video display called "Motel 6 Vision." An extremely popular attraction for fans attending NHRA national events, Motel 6 Vision features live video of racing in each category of competition, entertainment between runs as well as immediate replays of some of the most exciting action on the track. Beyond its involvement with the world's largest sanctioning body, Motel 6 has secured sponsorship with the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series team of Kenny Koretsky who fields one Pro Stock entry and Clay Millican's Top Fuel entry. The associate sponsorship will continue into 2006. "The decision by Accor Economy North America and its Motel 6 chain of hotels to extend its relationship with NHRA and to become an 'official sponsor' demonstrates the inherent value in NHRA Drag Racing," said John Covarrubias, vice president of sales, NHRA. "We welcome Motel 6 to the ever-growing list of official sponsors of NHRA." The Motel 6 'Who Got the Light?' program, which began in 2001, awards a $1,000 prize to the individual Top Fuel, Funny Car or Pro Stock competitor who wins a round of eliminations with the closest margin of victory compared to other Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock elimination rounds. The driver with the closest photo-finish victory for the season will earn a $25,000 cash award from Motel 6 at the conclusion of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series season. "NHRA provides the closest racing on the planet.it's a natural fit for Motel 6, the people who 'leave the light on for you,' to recognize this level of competitiveness," said Eric Studer, senior vice president of marketing services for Accor North America. "We like the fact that NHRA drag racing is the most 'fan friendly' motorsport and that it draws such a large number of families."
