Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #3

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Tony Bartone No Time, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.971/303.43, Was #17
Right Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 21.338/67.05, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.839/318.77, Was #14

Weather conditions: air temperature 81 degrees, relative humidity 28 percent, barometer 28.28 inches, adjusted altitude 3,515 feet, track temperature 106 degrees.

Both cars are up in smoke as soon as they hit the throttle, and Bartone coast to a stop around half track.


Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.960/305.84, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.998/304.80, Was #18
Right Lane: Stephen Neese Runs 5.338/236.13, Now #22; Best prior run: 8.180/100.64, Was #23

Haddock with his beest pass of the weekend, but it is not enough to get into the show. Neese is up in smoke and he clicks it off.

Left Lane: David Benjamin Runs 5.266/278.75, Now #22; Best prior run: 5.224/300.33, Was #21
Right Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 4.783/320.05, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.302/121.11, Was #23

Pedregon launched hard and keep the Goodyears hooked up all the way down the 1320 to go from outside the show into the top half of the show. That will bump out Burkart and put Jim Head on the bump spot at 4.893. No help here for Benjamin.

Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 7.942/114.72, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.834/318.32, Was #14
Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 11.920/75.18, Now #21; Best prior run: 5.115/281.48, Was #21

Creasy Jr. is up in smoke right off the starting line. Densham was up in smoke by 300 feet.

Left Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 4.821/321.88, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.830/323.27, Was #13
Right Lane: Phil Burkart Runs 4.901/315.12, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.915/298.67, Was #17

Burkart with his best pass of the weekend, but comes up short on making the field. Bazemore with a good looking pass to move up the ladder one spot.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.826/324.67, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.829/322.81, Was #13
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 7.545/113.46, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.893/323.04, Was #16

Wilkerson with another good looking pass, his best of the weekend but will stay number 13. Head was up in smoke by 330 feet and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.842/323.81, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.817/323.27, Was #11
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 12.190/96.38, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.809/322.19, Was #9

Cruz is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle. Capps with his best pass of the weekend, but will stay number 11.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.847/318.84, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.817/324.98, Was #10
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 6.561/136.76, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.800/325.22, Was #7

Worsham is up in smoke and clicks it off. Force with a good clean pass right down the groove.

Left Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 8.784/94.30, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.804/319.14, Was #8
Right Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 4.821/322.81, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.776/327.90, Was #3

Ashley loses traction and is all over his lane before he clicks it off. Scelzi with a nice looking pass

Left Lane: Eric Medlen Runs 6.801/127.16, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.782/323.50, Was #5
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.840/323.89, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.775/327.35, Was #2

Medlen is up in smoke by 500 feet and clicks it off. Hight was able to keep it hooked up all the way down the 1320.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.793/323.50, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.780/322.27, Was #4
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 9.599/86.25, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.763/325.77, Was #1

Johnson Jr. is up in smoke early and clicks it off. Pedregon with a great looking pass and only second to his brother for the quickest pass of the session.
