Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #2

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Max Naylor Runs 6.958/197.57, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.007/197.19, Was #22

4:30 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 38 percent, barometer 28.37 inches, adjusted altitude 2,851 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.

Rickie Smith is on the bump spot at 6.894 as the second round opens.

naylor steps up a bit from his first run today, getting into the sixes.


Left Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.936/199.08, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.977/199.35, Was #22
Right Lane: Barry Grant Runs 6.945/198.73, Now #22; Best prior run: 10.140/89.63, Was #25

Both drivers improved over their first runs, but they are still a few hundredths short of the bump time.

Left Lane: Mike Thomas Runs 6.897/200.26, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.913/198.88, Was #19
Right Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.885/199.58, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.321/159.27, Was #25

Watson once again a stout 60-foot time and this time he carried that momentum to the other end. He's in, for now anyway. Thomas made a good run, just thousandths short of the bump. Now Dave Howard is on the bump spot at 6.894. Th

Left Lane: Dave Howard Runs 6.881/200.14, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.894/200.41, Was #16
Right Lane: Tony Rizzo Runs 6.987/197.48, Now #25; Best prior run: 7.141/197.86, Was #25

Howard got off the bump on a nice run. Rizzo's car was left of the groove all the way down the track.

Left Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.861/200.83, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.892/200.00, Was #16
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.894/200.68, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.937/200.68, Was #22

Connolly just inherited the bump spot. Morgan had lots of speed in the first round, but had problems getting a clean launch. Connolly stepped up, almost to the top half. Morgan stepped up too, but came up one spot short of the field.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield No Time, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.885/200.62, Was #15
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.872/200.08, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.899/200.14, Was #21

Stanfield took too long staging and was timed out, getting a red light and no time. Yates bumped Watson, putting Stanfield on the bump.

Left Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.863/200.62, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.878/200.35, Was #14
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.898/199.49, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.898/200.20, Was #21

Pawuk picked up a hundredth and four spots. Edwards duplicated his earlier run and that was not at all what he wanted.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.874/199.49, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.875/199.58, Was #14
Right Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.863/200.59, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.894/200.08, Was #19

Smith made a nice pass, bumping Stanfield and pushing AJ down a spot. That puts Dave Howard on the bump spot at 6.881.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.859/200.71, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.851/200.38, Was #7
Right Lane: Bob Panella Runs 6.882/200.08, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.872/200.77, Was #13

Two good runs, no improvement for either driver.

Left Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.865/201.40, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.841/202.03, Was #5
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.863/201.61, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.864/201.67, Was #12

Stevens failed to improve on a nice run. WJ improved a thousandth and moved two spots up the ladder!

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.843/201.58, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.834/202.09, Was #4
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.844/201.70, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.854/201.46, Was #8

Nice side-by-side runs, Line a thousandth quicker than Krisher.

Left Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.833/201.43, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.831/201.52, Was #2
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.867/200.80, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.847/201.40, Was #7

Enders made another nice pass, just two thousandths slower than her first and quickesy of the session so far.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.830/201.82, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.825/201.40, Was #1
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.828/202.33, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.834/202.94, Was #3

Nice, the two quickest runs of the session, side-by-side. Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-1.009 sec., 330ft-2.846, 660ft-4.386/159.91mph, 1,000ft-5.713.
Kurt Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.013 sec., 330ft-2.850, 660ft-4.387/160.40mph, 1,000ft-5.712.

After two sessions, Anderson is still #1 at 6.825 and Dave Howard is on the bump spot at 6.881.
