Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Larry Sullivan

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Max Naylor Runs 7.007/197.19, Now #1

12:17 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 28 percent, barometer 28.46 inches, adjusted altitude 3,286 feet, track temperature 101 degrees.

With sponsorship from the rock music group "Disturbed" on the door, Naylor kicks things off for Pro Stock.

Left Lane: Tony Rizzo Runs 7.141/197.86, Now #3
Right Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.977/199.35, Now #1

Rizzo's car bogged on the launch. Benza made a clean run.

Left Lane: Bob Panella Runs 6.872/200.77, Now #1
Right Lane: Mike Thomas Runs 6.913/198.88, Now #2

Thomas will fill in for Kenny Koretsky for the rest of this year - no announcements have been made yet about next year. Both cars made good-looking runs, Panella showing his usual power with top speed so far.

Left Lane: Barry Grant Runs 10.140/89.63, Now #7
Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.878/200.35, Now #2

Grant's car wiggled a couple times, then slowed about 200 feet out. Nice run by Pawuk - now, will it hold up?

Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 7.321/159.27, Now #8
Right Lane: Dave Howard Runs 6.894/200.41, Now #3

Watson had a stout 1.009 60-foot time, but slowed early in the run.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.898/200.20, Now #5
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.831/201.52, Now #1

Enders ran away from Edwards, the car quick and smooth all the way through. Erica Enders' incremental times: 60ft-1.009 sec., 330ft-2.849, 660ft-4.388/160.04mph, 1,000ft-5.713.

Left Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.894/200.08, Now #6
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.851/200.38, Now #2

Gaines goes to the # spot for now. V. Gaines' incremental times: 60ft-1.011 sec., 330ft-2.851, 660ft-4.394/159.34mph, 1,000ft-5.726.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.937/200.68, Now #10
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.875/199.58, Now #4

Morgan's car did a dance on the launch, hurting his elapsed time.

Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.899/200.14, Now #10
Right Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.841/202.03, Now #2

Nice pass by "The Kid" with top speed so far. Richie Stevens' incremental times: 60ft-1.011 sec., 330ft-2.853, 660ft-4.396/159.53mph, 1,000ft-5.723

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.847/201.40, Now #3
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.885/200.62, Now #8

Enders' run is still looking pretty good...these were both good runs. Looks like the Schumacher Pro Stock cars have the same setup today, Jeg Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-1.012 sec., 330ft-2.855, 660ft-4.399/159.48mph, 1,000ft-5.728.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.854/201.46, Now #5
Right Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.892/200.00, Now #10

By the way, Kenny Koretsky is here, he wouldn't miss Vegas!

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.864/201.67, Now #7
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.834/202.09, Now #2

Two more nice runs, Line taking top speed away from Stevens. But Enders is still #1!

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.834/202.94, Now #3
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.825/201.40, Now #1

Now there are new #1s, in speed (KJ) and ET (Anderson), a nice pair of runs to finish the round. Johnson's car had a bit of tire spin on the launch, hurting his elapsed time slightly. Kurt Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.025 sec., 330ft-2.869, 660ft-4.403/160.56mph, 1,000ft-5.722
Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-1.007 sec., 330ft-2.839, 660ft-4.378/159.91mph, 1,000ft-5.705.

After one round, Greg Anderson is atop the field at 6.825 and Rickie Smith is on the bump spot at 6.894.
