Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 20th annual O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Eddie McDow Runs 5.961/235.43, Now #8; Best prior run: 9.493/90.73, Was #13
Right Lane: Kebin Kinsley Runs 5.743/250.55, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.817/249.44, Was #3

Weather conditions: air temperature 60 degrees, relative humidity 43 percent, barometer 29.90 inches, adjusted altitude 179 feet, track temperature 74 degrees.

Kinsley with his quickest and fastest pass of the season. McDow also with his best pass of the season to move into the top half of the show.


Left Lane: Brandon Lewis Runs 6.666/151.46, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.719/250.97, Was #2
Right Lane: Shawn Jones Runs 6.814/144.26, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.830/245.76, Was #5

Both cars appeared to be on good looking passes, but then both shut off around 800 feet.

Left Lane: Steve Harker Runs 5.630/256.16, Now #1; Best prior run: 11.193/73.41, Was #14
Right Lane: Jimmy Jones Runs 5.976/250.23, Now #10; Best prior run: 22.358/31.65, Was #15

Jones with some tire shake and got out of the groove, but stayed with it. Harker with his quickest and fastest pass to go to the number one spot. Steve Harker's incremental times: 60ft-0.963 sec., 330ft-2.509, 660ft-3.717/205.04mph, 1,000ft-4.752

Left Lane: Jason Rupert Runs 15.929/46.29, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.356/177.77, Was #13
Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.811/208.39, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.655/254.09, Was #2

Rupert had violent tire shake as soon as he hit the throttle. It appeared like Payne may have wounded one here with a puff of smoke around 900 feet.

Left Lane: Bernie Harrington Runs 5.738/249.44, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.902/235.68, Was #7
Right Lane: Dennis Taylor Runs 5.945/245.72, Now #9; Best prior run: 9.007/113.87, Was #15

Harrington drove through some tire shake and still had a nice pass. Taylor was able to get it down the track this time.

Left Lane: Vern Moats Runs 5.821/251.77, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.938/246.30, Was #8
Right Lane: Richard McClain Runs 5.759/244.83, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.950/139.46, Was #15

Moats was out of the groove early, but reeled it in to move up the ladder one spot. McClain with his best pass of the season to move into the top half of the show.

Left Lane: Steve Gasparrelli No Time, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.320/242.36, Was #14
Right Lane: Jeremy Johnson Runs 6.157/238.34, Now #13; No Prior Run

Gasparrelli broke on the burnout and the car is at around the 300-foot mark and he is out and over the wall. Johnson with his career best pass to get him in the show for now, and then had problems getting the car stopped and went into the sand

Left Lane: Will Hanna Runs 5.864/241.37, Now #11; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jon Johnson Runs 5.841/244.43, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.196/238.98, Was #14

Johnson with his quickest and fastest pass ever and Hanna with his quickest and fastest pass to get into the show.
