Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #1

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 20th annual O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Bill Ancona No Time, Now #2
Right Lane: Tim Gibson Runs 11.011/72.46, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 42 percent, barometer 29.90 inches, adjusted altitude 606 feet, track temperature 76 degrees.

Ancona wasn't able to get the car to fire. Gibson started to shake the tires and clicked it off.


Left Lane: Joe Hartley Runs 7.347/112.73, Now #2
Right Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 4.529/330.31, Now #1

Troxel with a great looking pass to become the fastest woman in drag racing. Melanie Troxel's incremental times: 60ft-0.853 sec., 330ft-2.141, 660ft-3.070/269.83mph, 1,000ft-3.855 Hartley lost traction early and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 10.562/79.59, Now #4
Right Lane: Mitch King Runs 4.862/292.52, Now #2

Beckman started to shake early and clicked it off. King was a little loose on nathe top end.

Left Lane: John Smith No Time, Now #7
Right Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 4.493/328.94, Now #1

Smith had a fuel line come off and lost traction and came to a stop by 300 feet. Fuller with his quickest pass ever to go to the number one spot.

Left Lane: Scott Weis Runs 9.440/89.06, Now #6
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.635/327.74, Now #3

Weis started to shake the tires barely and clicked it off. McClenathan was moving around, but still has a nice pass.

Left Lane: Scott Kalitta Runs 4.570/321.88, Now #3
Right Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 4.592/319.37, Now #4

Herbert was pushing out a head gasket early in the run and had a quick flash of flame on the top end. Kalitta with a nice clean pass.

Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.536/327.35, Now #4
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.509/320.81, Now #2

Lucas straight down the groove. Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.125, 660ft-3.036/274.61mph, 1,000ft-3.820 Bernstein with a good pass.

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 9.380/74.28, Now #11
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 6.026/142.69, Now #9

Grubnic was up in smoke early and clicked it off. Kalitta started to smoke the tires around 500 feet and shut it off.

Left Lane: Larry Dixon No Time, Now #17
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 12.914/73.49, Now #15

Schumacher was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle and Dixon came to a stop by 100 feet when he lost the blower belt as soon as he hit the throttle.
