Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 20th annual O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Jon Johnson Runs 6.196/238.98, Now #1
Right Lane: Jason Rupert Runs 6.356/177.77, Now #2

Weather conditions: air temperature 57 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.91 inches, adjusted altitude 18 feet, track temperature 76 degrees.

Rupert was trailing smoke all the way down the 1320.


Left Lane: Jeremy Johnson No Time, Now #4
Right Lane: Will Hanna No Time, Now #3

Johnson got out of the groove and drifted toward the centerline and took out the top end cones. He will be DQ'ed and Hanna was trailing him and he will not get an E.T.

Left Lane: Jimmy Jones Runs 22.358/31.65, Now #2
Right Lane: Eddie McDow Runs 9.493/90.73, Now #1

Jones with a lot of tire shake right off the starting line and clicks it off. McDow makes it a little farther down track before he loses traction and shuts it off.

Left Lane: Richard McClain Runs 6.950/139.46, Now #2
Right Lane: Brandon Lewis Runs 5.719/250.97, Now #1

Lewis with a really nice pass a career best E.T. for him. McClain clicked it off early.

Left Lane: Jackie Stidham Runs 5.828/248.11, Now #2
Right Lane: Steve Harker Runs 11.193/73.41, Now #7

Harker with tire shake and got out of the groove and clicked it off. Stidham was able to get it to hook up.

Left Lane: Shawn Jones Runs 5.830/245.76, Now #3
Right Lane: Bernie Harrington Runs 5.902/235.68, Now #4

Harrington was out of the groove and over by the wall, but stayed with it. Jones with a good baseline pass to start the weekend.

Left Lane: Dennis Taylor Runs 9.007/113.87, Now #9
Right Lane: Vern Moats Runs 5.938/246.30, Now #5

Taylor with a lot of tire shake right off the starting line and clicked it off. Moats got out of the groove around half track and started losing traction and pedaled it one time.

Left Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.655/254.09, Now #1
Right Lane: Steve Gasparrelli Runs 6.320/242.36, Now #8

Payne launched hard and keep it hooked up and hitting on all eight to go to the number one spot. Gasparrelli with some tire shake and pedaled it and got it to hook up.

Left Lane: Kebin Kinsley Runs 5.817/249.44, Now #3

Kinsley's car was creeping right before the light turned green. He got out of the groove early, but was able to reel it in and make a nice pass.
