Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #2

JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual Ameriquest Mortgage Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 5.507/251.86, Now #11; Best prior run: 14.098/80.95, Was #22
Right Lane: Timothy Bowgren Runs 5.866/200.17, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.504/261.67, Was #10

6:42 p.m. Hirata was mixing up cylinders all the way through the run.

Left Lane: Scott Murray Runs 5.517/239.06, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.654/236.38, Was #15
Right Lane: Arthur Gallant Runs 5.789/271.30, Now #16; Best prior run: 24.464/35.88, Was #25

Both drivers make good runs and move up in the order.

Left Lane: Guy Kelly Runs 5.424/260.21, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.535/257.43, Was #13
Right Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 5.289/271.13, Now #4; Best prior run: 20.473/63.00, Was #25

olivarez had traction problems in the first round earlier today. No problems on this run, right down the groove, and he movesw into the field in the fourth spot. Kelly makes another good run and moves up a few notches.

Left Lane: Steve Federlin No Time, Now #0; No Prior Run
Right Lane: John Finke Runs 15.366/70.44, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.368/253.99, Was #6

Finke had problems at the hit and shut down. Federlin ran a 5.488@259.96 but is not running in this event.

Left Lane: Denny Hummel Runs 6.080/166.09, Now #21; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Gene Snow Runs 20.087/54.43, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.261/260.61, Was #2

now goes up in smoke right off the line and clicks it off. Hummel was on a decent pass, but pushed a head gasket out about 1000 feet down and shut down.

Left Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.501/258.22, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.240/264.34, Was #1
Right Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 5.495/253.99, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.608/246.39, Was #17



Left Lane: Ken Perry Runs 5.376/263.46, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.355/264.55, Was #5
Right Lane: Richard Putz Runs 5.404/264.03, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.415/261.57, Was #9

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove.

Left Lane: Todd Datweiler Runs 13.720/78.88, Now #26; Best prior run: 13.217/84.66, Was #26
Right Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.381/267.48, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.441/262.03, Was #11

Datweiler strikes the tires right off the line and clicks it off. Thacker went right down the groove and moves into the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Jeff Hamelink Runs 5.533/260.46, Now #17; Best prior run: 10.115/80.57, Was #25
Right Lane: Brandon Johnson Runs 5.392/263.72, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.401/264.03, Was #9



Left Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.543/197.86, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.267/278.81, Was #3
Right Lane: Robert Perkins Runs 6.561/239.53, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.177/176.93, Was #23

Perkins hits the throttle, makes a move to the left, pulls the front wheels, then shuts down. Reichert has problems late in the run and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Ashley Force Runs 5.908/253.52, Now #20; Best prior run: 5.819/259.11, Was #20
Right Lane: Robin Samsel Runs 6.120/253.28, Now #21; Best prior run: 5.851/254.71, Was #21

Both drivers were mixing up cylinders all the way through their runs.

Left Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.460/263.77, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.589/261.22, Was #18
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 5.308/258.71, Now #5; Best prior run: 16.756/45.20, Was #27

Torrence keeps the slicks stuck on this pass and gets in the show in the fifth spot. McPhillips makes a clean run and moves into the show.

Left Lane: Jeff Bohr Runs 5.501/260.36, Now #16; Best prior run: 8.165/117.36, Was #26

Bohr makes a decent pass here and gets in the show.

Left Lane: Jeff Wilson Runs 5.559/256.11, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.394/267.64, Was #10

WIlson pulls the wheels about four feet off the ground, never backs off the throttle and carries them for abput 400 feet. He doesn't improve, but it was fun to watch.
