JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual Ameriquest Mortgage Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Mike Trumble Jr Runs 6.796/203.58, Now #1

3:38 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 70 degrees, relative humidity 24 percent, barometer 29.71 inches, adjusted altitude 1,137 feet, track temperature 89 degrees.

Left Lane: Max Naylor No Time, Now #4
Right Lane: Larry Peternel Runs 9.889/88.41, Now #2

Naylor made his burnout and broke. He shut down about 200 feet out, left the car there, and Peternel made his run.

Left Lane: Pat Herold Runs 9.384/93.41, Now #3
Right Lane: Jerry Hemmingson Runs 6.872/202.42, Now #2

Herold had problems early and shut down. Hemmingson made the quickest and fastest pass of his career.

Left Lane: Bill Shorts Runs 7.020/195.19, Now #4
Right Lane: Tony Rizzo Runs 6.822/203.65, Now #2

Left Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 6.770/204.08, Now #1
Right Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.795/203.80, Now #2

Left Lane: Barry Grant Runs 7.351/148.49, Now #8
Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.791/205.26, Now #2

Pawuk gets out of shape right off the line, but hangs on for a decent pass. Grant has problems late in the run and shuts down early.

Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.721/204.94, Now #1
Right Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.742/204.54, Now #2

Left Lane: Dave Howard Runs 6.709/205.29, Now #2
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.705/206.26, Now #1

Howard runs a career best ET and speed and gets in the second spot for now. Enders with a career best speed to take the early pole.

Left Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.712/205.38, Now #4
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.712/205.85, Now #3

Left Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.718/205.51, Now #6
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.701/206.70, Now #1

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.717/205.16, Now #7
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.708/205.22, Now #3

Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.713/205.82, Now #8
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.699/205.63, Now #1

Coughlin goes right down the groove and runs the first "60" of the weekend. Yates makes a clean pass to get in the field for now.

Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.694/206.61, Now #1

Identical elapsed times, Krisher takes the pole with the faster speed for now.

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.690/207.27, Now #1
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.707/206.67, Now #7

Johnson spins the tires a little off the line. Line goes right down the groove and takes the pole for now.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.704/207.11, Now #7
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.678/206.99, Now #1

Anderson goes right down the groove and takes the pole after the first round of qualifying. Johnson made a big move on the top end but was a little slow the first part of the run.
