Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Final Session

MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 21st annual Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Mitch King Runs 4.933/282.13, Now #17; Best prior run: 13.049/69.61, Was #18
Right Lane: Scott Weis Runs 4.838/275.90, Now #16; Best prior run: 8.271/104.72, Was #17

Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 49 percent, barometer 29.81 inches, adjusted altitude 1,685 feet, track temperature 115 degrees.

King started mixing up cylinders on the top end, but still runs his best pass of the weekend. He will not get into the show. Weis' engine was eating itself up from a 1000 feet on, but he stayed with it to get into the show.


Left Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 4.961/235.31, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.953/237.96, Was #18
Right Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 12.174/78.36, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.688/282.24, Was #15

Zizzo is up in smoke as soon as he its the throttle. Novelli makes it to about half track and then the engine lets go with a big fireball.

Right Lane: Doug Foley Runs 4.669/298.93, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.632/318.69, Was #14

Foley with a great run until right before the finish line when it looked like it started mixing up cylinders.

Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.575/317.87, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.611/325.53, Was #12
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.608/315.12, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.595/319.52, Was #10

Bernstein launched hard and keep it hitting on all eight for his best pass of the weekend. Millican was able to keep the fuse lit all the way through the 1320, but didn't improve.

Left Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 4.550/320.20, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.610/325.92, Was #12
Right Lane: David Baca Runs 5.663/160.79, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.568/324.44, Was #8

Baca started trailing smoke around 400 feet when the engine went away. Apparently he was trailing oil along with the smoke as we are down for the clean up. Troxel with a great looking pass and her career best ET pass to get into the top half of the show.

Left Lane: Scott Kalitta Runs 6.535/123.09, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.585/326.16, Was #11
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 10.669/76.04, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.560/325.30, Was #8

Grubnic lost traction around 150 feet and Kalitta was up in smoke just before half track.

Left Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 4.560/318.39, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.541/318.92, Was #3
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 7.323/112.91, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.554/323.58, Was #7

Kalitta was up in smoke around 400 feet. Herbert with a good clean pass, but will not improve on his qualifying position.

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 4.548/318.84, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.538/323.43, Was #2
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.580/321.27, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.553/319.14, Was #6

This was a good looking drag race. Dixon with the quickest pass of the session. Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.150, 660ft-3.078/271.46mph, 1,000ft-3.862 Cory Mac with another good pass, he has been running consistent all weekend.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.527/315.93, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.477/323.35, Was #1
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.556/322.81, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.542/325.06, Was #4

This was a couple good looking pass to end qualifying with Schumacher running the quickest pass of the session. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.847 sec., 330ft-2.149, 660ft-3.068/274.78mph, 1,000ft-3.846
