Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 21st annual Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Mitch King Runs 13.049/69.61, Now #18; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Scott Weis Runs 8.271/104.72, Now #16; Best prior run: 9.596/84.44, Was #17

Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.83 inches, adjusted altitude 1,534 feet, track temperature 96 degrees.

King was up in smoke right off the starting line. Weis made to about 330 feet before he blistered the Goodyears.


Left Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 4.610/325.92, Now #5; Best prior run: 9.427/83.15, Was #17
Right Lane: David Baca Runs 4.568/324.44, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.874/245.81, Was #13

This was good looking drag race and on of Bac's better passes as of lately.

Left Lane: John Smith Runs 11.308/77.65, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.093/155.15, Was #16
Right Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 4.688/282.24, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.859/289.94, Was #14

Smith was up in smoke by 200 feet and clicked it off. Zizzo with a good pass until right before the finish line.

Left Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 5.009/223.58, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.953/237.96, Was #15
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.653/290.19, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.793/264.08, Was #14

Millican with a good pass until the engine started to go away right before the finish line. Novelli's engine let go around 800 feet with a big fireball.

Left Lane: Scott Kalitta Runs 4.585/326.16, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.657/318.09, Was #11
Right Lane: Doug Foley Runs 4.704/282.95, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.727/306.95, Was #14

Kalitta with a great looking pass, straight down the groove with it hitting on all eight. Foley with a nice pass, but the header flames were out prior to the finish line.

Left Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 4.541/318.92, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.621/318.17, Was #8
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.568/327.27, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.676/297.81, Was #12

This was a great looking side by side pass for the number one and three spots.

Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 8.433/90.25, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.611/325.53, Was #9
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 6.747/119.88, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.648/313.95, Was #11

Bernstein was up in smoke by 250 feet and Grubnic was up in smoke by 350 feet.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.477/323.35, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.595/287.47, Was #7
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 8.830/93.94, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.625/315.86, Was #10

Schumacher with a great looking pass as the header flames were lit all the way through the 1320. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.825 sec., 330ft-2.111, 660ft-3.026/275.06mph, 1,000ft-3.801 Kalitta was up in smoke by 330 feet.

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 4.538/323.43, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.592/324.90, Was #7
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.542/325.06, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.563/322.11, Was #3

What a Great Drag race to end the day with Dixon going to the number two spot, bumping Lucas back to the number four spot.
