Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 21st annual Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Bruce Horner Runs 5.782/246.17, Now #1

12:31 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 56 percent, barometer 29.93 inches, adjusted altitude 1,541 feet, track temperature 105 degrees.

Horner was the first alcohol dragster down the track. He took his car down the groove.


Left Lane: Dave DeAngelis Runs 5.605/257.53, Now #1
Right Lane: Ken Winward Runs 5.734/227.77, Now #2

Both drivers had clean runs down the track.

Left Lane: Mike Kosky Runs 5.549/251.63, Now #1
Right Lane: Jeff Veale Runs 5.574/249.53, Now #2

Kosky drifted toward the centerline but never backed off the throttle. Veale took his car down the groove.

Left Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.408/264.44, Now #2
Right Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.331/270.05, Now #1

Two good runs down the track.

Left Lane: Ashley Force Runs 5.817/242.67, Now #8
Right Lane: Wayne Morris Runs 12.752/62.83, Now #9

Force lost some cylinders on her way down the track. Morris launched and his car slowed. He coasted the rest of the way down the track.

Left Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 5.538/264.91, Now #3
Right Lane: Richard Bourke Runs 5.675/250.83, Now #7

Bourke had a little bit of tire shake. Mercier's run looked clean.

Left Lane: Karen Benkovich Runs 5.645/247.43, Now #8
Right Lane: Jeff Bohr Runs 5.469/259.76, Now #3

Both drivers took their cars down the groove.

Left Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.639/256.31, Now #9
Right Lane: Mark Albert Runs 5.543/253.33, Now #5

Albert had some tire shake when he launched but he drove through it. McPhillips went down the middle of his lane but was not as quick as other drivers.

Right Lane: Steve Federlin Runs 5.556/258.27, Now #7

Federlin's car chattered the tires for the first 100 feet. He drove through it and got the car settled down for the rest of the run.

Right Lane: Arthur Gallant Runs 5.336/258.52, Now #2

Gallant moved into the number two spot in the order with a nice pass down the quarter mile.
