Pro Mod Challenge, CureSearch Team Up for Cancer Fight

CLERMONT, Ind. -- The AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge presented by TLR has joined the race for finding a cancer cure, teaming with the CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation this weekend at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals to promote awareness of childhood cancer and to raise money toward finding a cure.

CureSearch (www.curesearch.org), a Maryland-based charity, seeks to educate the public about childhood cancer and to raise funds to help find an eventual cure. The organization has helped raise the childhood cancer survival rate from virtually non-existent 50 years ago to nearly 80 percent today. The partnership with the AMS/TLR series is CureSearch's first affiliation with a major drag racing organization.

"What we've found is that a lot of people who enjoy coming to the races have also been touched by cancer during their lives, whether it's a child, a brother, a sister, a friend, or someone else," said Rodney Mullins, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development for CureSearch, who is helping to man the CureSearch booth at the Indianapolis Raceway Park midway. "We've been reaching out to many of these people, and we've had some really positive responses. Since we've been here, we've talked to several hundred people who want to know more about us or who have decided to actively help out and support us."

Pro Mod Challenge administrator Kenny Nowling, who helped introduce CureSearch to the world of top-level drag racing, said he was delighted to have the organization at NHRA's largest event.

"First, I'd like to thank NHRA for their help in giving CureSearch an opportunity to educate the drag racing community," Nowling said. "I am confident that if the search for a cure can move as quickly as the action in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, then the end of childhood cancer, or all cancers, cannot be that far off."

Mullins added that he would eventually like to arrange for victims of childhood cancer to see the AMS/TLR Pro Mods run in person.

"That's a dream of mine," Mullins said. "I'd like to see some kids out here, along with their families, enjoying the Pro Mod Challenge and taking some time off from worrying about being sick or paying bills. Doctors have told us again and again that positive experiences help cancer patients get better sooner."
