CLERMONT, Ind. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Modified at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 51st annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals:

6:34 p.m. Bell hammered Hoover on the tree and then outran him for a surprisingly easy win.

Engel came from behind to run Patterson down, but his car got out of shape on the top end, fishtailed, and crossed the centerline, DQ'ing his run, giving Patterson the win.

No wild gyration this time, but Kerunsly had to come from way back to take the win in the last few feet of the track. Glen Kerunsky's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.047), 330 ft(-0.032), 660ft(-0.024), 1,000ft(-0.007). MOV: 0.0153 seconds (approximately 5 feet).

Stivers, on a holeshot. Rick Stivers' incremental margins: 60ft(0.034), 330 ft(0.033), 660ft(0.038), 1,000ft(0.030). MOV: 0.0323 seconds (approximately 11 feet). He lost lane choice to Kerunsky, however.

Ashley's car was out of the groove and moving around a lot in the first half of the run, but he did not lift and managed to win anyway, extending his lead all the way down the track. And, by a thousandth, he has lane choice against Coughlin in round two.

Bray, in his first race in the U.S.A, drew a tough opponent for his debut. He beat Payne away from the starting line and led all the way past the 1,000-foot timer, but Payne went by in the lights to take the win.Jay Payne's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.030), 330 ft(-0.050), 660ft(-0.034), 1,000ft(-0.011). MOV: 0.0137 seconds (approximately 5 feet).

Hernandez made up Barklage's starting line advantage in the first 60 feet and then just drove away from him, running low ET of the round. He will have lane choice against Bell next round.
