Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #3

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 51st annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Jason Cannon Runs 5.910/221.82, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.830/228.27, Was #17
Right Lane: Jeff Bohr Runs 5.456/258.86, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.466/259.41, Was #5

4:01 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 24 percent, barometer 29.66 inches, adjusted altitude 2,212 feet, track temperature 116 degrees.

Bohr makes a decent pass and moves up a notch on the ladder. Cannon slows and doesn't get in the show.


Left Lane: Ken Perry Runs 5.511/256.06, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.589/234.61, Was #13
Right Lane: Gene Snow Runs 18.453/37.96, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.438/261.32, Was #3

A repeat performance for Snow, he hits the throttle and goes up in smoke again. Perry goes right down the groove and makes his quickest run of the weekend so far.

Left Lane: Arthur Gallant No Time, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.523/265.90, Was #11
Right Lane: Noah Condo No Time, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.512/259.86, Was #10

Condo left before the tree was activated. Gallant hit the throttle, the engine stumbled, then he backed off the throttle.

Left Lane: Paul Fishburn Runs 6.116/194.58, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.759/248.07, Was #15
Right Lane: Jeff Wilson Runs 5.711/259.61, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.862/257.73, Was #19

Fishburn gets about 800 feet out and pops the burst panel. Wilson rattled the tires off the line, pedaled once, then went on through for a decent pass. He gets in the field in the 15th spot.

Left Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.763/246.75, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.526/255.05, Was #12
Right Lane: Robin Samsel Runs 6.252/231.99, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.195/239.14, Was #22

Samsel had a hole out on the right side at the hit. Reichert's engine sounded a little sluggish all the way through the run.

Left Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 5.601/250.09, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.615/250.00, Was #14
Right Lane: Brandon Johnson Runs 5.534/259.76, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.500/260.31, Was #8

A couple of good runs here, both go right down the groove.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 5.422/266.32, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.400/262.64, Was #2
Right Lane: Ashley Force Runs 5.896/244.83, Now #20; Best prior run: 5.941/243.46, Was #20

Torrence makes another good pass and stays in the second spot. Force is still struggling.

Left Lane: Todd Datweiler Runs 6.032/189.90, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.568/256.65, Was #13
Right Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 5.470/264.55, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.396/265.90, Was #1

Another good run for Olivarez. Datweiler slows from his earlier pass.

Left Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.557/260.51, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.494/260.21, Was #7
Right Lane: Steve Federlin Runs 5.523/259.66, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.485/261.67, Was #6

Federlin shook the tires right off the line, drove through it, and went on through for a decent run. Thacker makes a decent pass but slows from his earlier run.

Left Lane: Hillary Will Runs 5.472/265.64, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.460/266.06, Was #5

Will goes right down the groove with another consistent run.

Left Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 11.346/80.66, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.087/256.02, Was #21

Hirata is still having problems, the engine sounding like it was running on four cylinders at times. He gets about 300 feet out and gives up on the run.
