Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 51st annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Fred Hagen Runs 6.401/238.64, Now #2
Right Lane: Steve Harker Runs 5.805/249.26, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 48 percent, barometer 29.51 inches, adjusted altitude 2,086 feet, track temperature 123 degrees.

Harker was straight down the groove.


Left Lane: Don Hudson Runs 5.749/249.44, Now #1
Right Lane: Brandon Lewis Runs 5.841/251.95, Now #3

Hudson with a real nice looking pass to start the weekend.

Left Lane: Michael Bell Runs 6.129/192.06, Now #4
Right Lane: Steve Franke Runs 6.474/222.00, Now #6

Bell slowed around half track, while Franke was loose off the starting line.

Left Lane: Russell Mudd Runs 6.958/157.76, Now #8
Right Lane: Don DeVault Runs 6.482/218.97, Now #7



Left Lane: Danny Townsend Runs 5.805/251.49, Now #3
Right Lane: John Weaver Runs 5.769/251.02, Now #2

Weaver got out of the groove, but still with a real nice looking pass. Townsend was straight down the groove.

Left Lane: Jeff Burnett Runs 6.784/154.19, Now #11
Right Lane: Mick Snyder Runs 5.769/247.84, Now #3

Burnett with problems early in the run. Snyder with a good looking pass.

Left Lane: Bernie Harrington Runs 5.767/246.03, Now #3
Right Lane: Vern Moats Runs 5.737/253.04, Now #1

A couple of good looking passes from a couple of the big hitter as Moats goes to the number one spot.

Left Lane: Bob Newberry Runs 7.960/105.63, Now #16
Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.767/253.14, Now #3

Newberry with problems early in the run and clicked it off early. Payne with a nice pass.

Left Lane: Frank Manzo Runs 5.670/256.06, Now #1

Manzo with a great looking pass to go to the number one spot.

Left Lane: John Bojac Runs 5.952/242.84, Now #11

Bojac started to shake the tires and pedaled it.
