POMONA, Calif. -- Pontiac-GMC Division announced today that it will return in 2005 as Official Car and Official Truck of the NHRA. It will mark the 10th consecutive season that Pontiac has served as the Official Car and the 16th for GMC as Official Truck of the series.

"The power and excitement of NHRA POWERade drag racing make Pontiac's participation as Official Car an outstanding way to showcase GM's total performance lineup, and the superior capability of GMC trucks will continue to define Professional Grade for the support staff of NHRA," said Jim Bunnell, General Manager, Pontiac-GMC Division. "We are proud of our affiliation with the NHRA and look forward to working with the sanctioning body, our teams and drivers, and all of the participating sponsors who continue to make this sport grow."

Since becoming the Official Car of NHRA in 1996, championships and national records have become a common theme for Pontiac on the 23-event NHRA POWERade tour. In 2004, the Detroit-based automobile manufacturer tallied 21 national-event victories in the professional categories, advanced to 31 final rounds, earned 18 low-qualifying awards and captured its eighth NHRA Manufacturers Cup in the last nine years. Greg Anderson drove a Pontiac Grand Am to back-to-back championships in Pro Stock (this year was Pontiac's seventh championship in the division since 1996), and his win yesterday at the NHRA Finals at Pomona Raceway was Pontiac's 144th all-time in the hotly contested category - the most by any manufacturer in the history of the sport.

In 2005, Pontiac will once again be the title-rights sponsor for the 41st annual Pontiac Performance Nationals on May 19 - 22 in Columbus, Ohio. Pontiac has been an integral part of the spring classic at National Trail Raceway since 1996.

"We are extremely pleased to continue our relationship with Pontiac-GMC as the Official Car and Official Truck of the NHRA," said Tom Compton, president, NHRA. "We value this long-lasting partnership with Pontiac-GMC, which has proven, over time, to be a beneficial business relationship for the both of us. Our goal, moving forward, will be to continue to provide Pontiac-GMC with the tremendous return on investment it has grown accustomed to through its participation in NHRA POWERade Drag racing."
