Pro Stock Bike Qualifying Notes, Final Session

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock Bike at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 40th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Mike Lozano Runs 7.447/177.32, Now #23; Best prior run: 7.441/177.09, Was #23

2:49 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 69 degrees, relative humidity 52 percent, barometer 28.86 inches, adjusted altitude 2,150 feet, track temperature 83 degrees.

Steve Johnson will save parts and pass on this last session. No joy for Lozano and he will have to watch from the stands tomorrow.


Left Lane: Redell Harris Runs 7.401/181.01, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.389/175.80, Was #22
Right Lane: Wesley Wells Runs 7.402/178.50, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.332/177.58, Was #21

No improvements here either.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.204/184.47, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.284/176.81, Was #20
Right Lane: Jay Matthews Runs 7.227/184.67, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.239/183.72, Was #17

Camarena is on the bump with a 7.210, but not for long. Stoffer make a big move and gets into the bottom of the field for now.

Left Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.351/180.77, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.279/182.50, Was #20
Right Lane: Fred Camarena Runs 7.230/184.83, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.210/183.49, Was #17

Camarena slows and won't bump back in.

Left Lane: Connie Cohen Runs 7.414/179.21, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.269/182.55, Was #19
Right Lane: Blaine Hale Runs 7.207/190.40, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.199/185.43, Was #13

Smith is on the bump with a 7.207 ET. No improvements here.

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.195/184.57, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.207/185.28, Was #16
Right Lane: Chip Hunter Runs 7.215/185.82, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.167/186.18, Was #10

Smith makes a good move to get off the current bump. Hunter slows.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.184/185.23, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.202/165.23, Was #15
Right Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.306/188.33, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.162/185.23, Was #9

Stoffer is now on the bump. Hines broke a chain on the last run and thrashed the body and wheelie bars. He was hit in the ankle by pieces and limping. The crew pulled parts off of their new show bike and made enough difference in the tune up to ensure that Hines would qualify and settle the Championship. DeSantis slows.

Left Lane: Kurt Matte Runs 7.295/180.96, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.179/186.05, Was #11
Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.201/186.28, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.137/187.26, Was #7

The conditions are not beneficial for the bikes and these guys slow too.

Left Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.191/184.47, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.131/191.59, Was #6
Right Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.117/194.66, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.115/187.16, Was #5

Hugh MPH for Tonglet and another seven eleven pass. Treble slows.

Left Lane: Angelle Savoie Runs 7.153/185.92, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.111/186.85, Was #4
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.145/191.57, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.092/188.15, Was #3

A good 191 pass, but no ET improvements.

Left Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.098/188.15, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.091/188.65, Was #2
Right Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.096/186.36, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.024/188.38, Was #1

Ellis slows a little and both bikes run similar ET's to finish qualifying for bikes.
