The word is out and it's a record breaking achievement for drag racing. We're talking about the International Motorsports Hall of Fame five inductees for the class of 2005. Not one, but TWO drag racers survived the earlier cuts and will be among those five honored at the black tie banquet next year during the spring Talladega weekend. To keep you in suspense no longer, the two quarter pounders voted into the most prestigious of motorsports Halls of Fame are five time Top Fuel champion Joe Amato, now a team owner and Pro Stock legend Bob Glidden, who captured 10 season Pro Stock titles over the years. As Jim Freeman, executive director of the IMHOF describes it: "It is, indeed, a record, and the NHRA is pretty pleased about it. Counting Shirley Muldowney last year, that is three in the past two years, as many as were inducted in the first 12 years combined (Wally Parks, Don "Big Daddy" Garlits and Don "The Snake" Prudhomme)." You probably can easily guess the third member of this 2005 class, who was voted in the first year he was eligible -- NASCAR Nextel Cup's Darrell Waltrip, who won three series championships and is now a Craftsman Truck Series owner and TV commentator. Completing this class is open wheel champion Nigel Mansell and power boat legend Chip Hanauer.
