JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Russ Lindert Runs 5.533/259.76, Now #1
Right Lane: Tim Bowgren Runs 5.569/260.81, Now #2

11:44 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 68 degrees, relative humidity 56 percent, barometer 29.32 inches, adjusted altitude 1,556 feet, track temperature 80 degrees.

Bowgren shook the tires right off the line, drives through it, and runs a career best.

Left Lane: John Haley Runs 5.350/265.53, Now #1
Right Lane: Bruce Bowler Runs 5.878/247.61, Now #4

Haley goes right down the groove and runs a career best to take the early pole. Bowler's engine was sluggish off the line.

Left Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 5.524/257.87, Now #2
Right Lane: Ed Schmeeckle Runs 5.565/254.23, Now #4

Dreher rattles the tires a little off the line but still gets in the second spot.

Left Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 21.370/33.79, Now #8
Right Lane: Arthur Gallant Runs 8.388/97.81, Now #7

Reichert gets about ten feet out and shuts down. Gallant was losing cylinders early, the shut down around half-track.

Left Lane: Jeff Wilson Runs 5.600/245.63, Now #7
Right Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.366/266.00, Now #2

Left Lane: Shelly Howard Runs 14.532/80.04, Now #11
Right Lane: Todd Datweiler Runs 5.418/267.85, Now #3

Howard goes up in smoke at the hit and shuts down.

Left Lane: Robin Samsel Runs 5.502/257.58, Now #5
Right Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.496/261.83, Now #4

Samsel runs a career best speed here and gets in the five spot.

Left Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 5.377/273.66, Now #3
Right Lane: Guy Kelly Runs 5.555/259.36, Now #9

Hirata goes right down the groove, runs a career best speed, and gets in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Michael Gunderson Runs 5.237/276.63, Now #1
Right Lane: Richard Putz Runs 6.338/257.04, Now #15

Putz shakes the tires, pedals, then starts shaking the tires again. Gunderson keeps the candles lit all the way through the run and takes the top spot for now.

Left Lane: Ashley Force Runs 5.352/270.75, Now #3
Right Lane: Ken Perry Runs 5.423/254.14, Now #7

Left Lane: Mitch Myers Runs 5.211/270.48, Now #1
Right Lane: David Wells Runs 5.388/264.80, Now #7

Myers makes the sixth quickest run in history, a career best, and takes over the pole for now. Wells makes a decent pass and gets in the seventh spot.

Left Lane: Steve Federlin Runs 5.529/261.72, Now #13
Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 14.959/46.35, Now #23

Shields shakes the tires right off the line and shuts down.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 5.403/261.17, Now #8
Right Lane: Brian Badgett No Time, Now #26

Badgett has problems getting the engine started and is pushed off the track.

Left Lane: Jason Cannon No Time, Now #27

Cannon starts the engine, then shuts down, not sure why.
