JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Ed Schmeeckle Runs 6.527/142.90, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.565/254.23, Was #17
Right Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 5.316/272.72, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.377/273.66, Was #6

2:20 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 72 degrees, relative humidity 55 percent, barometer 29.25 inches, adjusted altitude 1,895 feet, track temperature 97 degrees.

Schmeeckle gets to half track and pitches the blower belt. Hirata makes another good run and moves up three spots to third.

Left Lane: Richard Putz Runs 5.455/263.26, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.338/257.04, Was #21
Right Lane: Jared Dreher No Time, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.524/257.87, Was #13

Dreher breaks on the burnout and shuts down. Putz goes right down the groove , running a career best speed, and gets in the show in the 11th spot.

Left Lane: Arthur Gallant Runs 13.755/45.49, Now #22; Best prior run: 8.388/97.81, Was #22
Right Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 15.665/51.67, Now #25; Best prior run: 21.370/33.79, Was #25

Reichert goes up in smoke right off the line and shuts down. Gallant gets about 200 feet out, starts spinning the tires and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.415/264.75, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.366/266.00, Was #6
Right Lane: Michael Gunderson Runs 5.243/275.96, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.237/276.63, Was #2

Left Lane: Guy Kelly Runs 5.385/264.29, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.555/259.36, Was #17
Right Lane: Steve Federlin Runs 5.448/261.52, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.529/261.72, Was #15

Kelly makes a good pass, his best career speed, and he moves into the show in the seventh spot. Federlin improves and moves up to the 12th spot.

Left Lane: Todd Datweiler Runs 5.458/264.80, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.418/267.85, Was #10
Right Lane: Mitch Myers Runs 10.553/77.14, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.211/270.48, Was #1

Myers shook the tires off the line, the right side of the wing breaks off, then he shuts down. Datweiler makes another clean run and stays in the tenth spot.

Left Lane: Bruce Bowler Runs 5.460/260.51, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.878/247.61, Was #21
Right Lane: Ashley Force Runs 9.760/76.18, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.352/270.75, Was #5

Force shakes the tires early and backs off the throttle. Bowler made a good run and gets in the show in the 14th spot for now.

Left Lane: David Wells Runs 5.405/262.69, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.388/264.80, Was #8
Right Lane: Shelly Howard Runs 15.599/71.92, Now #23; Best prior run: 14.532/80.04, Was #23

Howard hits the throttle and goes up in smoke. Wells makes another good run and stays in the eighth spot.

Left Lane: Tim Bowgren Runs 5.406/263.51, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.569/260.81, Was #20
Right Lane: Jeff Wilson Runs 5.424/263.82, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.600/245.63, Was #21

A good looking side-by-side, both cars right down the groove to get in the show. Bowgren runs a career best ET by over a tenth of a second, his earlier run was his quickest. We now have the quickest field ever, the previous was here in '02.

Left Lane: Ken Perry Runs 5.405/261.27, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.423/254.14, Was #12
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 9.303/99.86, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.403/261.17, Was #9

Lucas shakes the tires off the line, tries to drive through it, then gives up on the run about 300 feet out.

Left Lane: Chris Demke No Time, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.496/261.83, Was #17
Right Lane: Robin Samsel Runs 5.718/248.52, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.502/257.58, Was #18

Demke has problems before he gets the engine started and is pushed off the track.

Left Lane: Brian Badgett Runs 5.605/263.15, Now #23; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jason Cannon Runs 5.552/256.65, Now #21; No Prior Run

A couple of clean runs but not quick enough to get in the show.

Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.355/264.75, Now #6; Best prior run: 14.959/46.35, Was #26

Shields goes right down the groove and gets in the show.
