JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Vinny Arcadi Runs 8.911/95.66, Now #1
Right Lane: John Lawson Runs 9.329/86.33, Now #2

Lawson shook and shut off. Arcadi with problems early in the pass and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 5.495/191.78, Now #2
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 5.045/305.63, Now #1

Gray launched hard and made a good looking pass. Creasy was on good looking pass until about 900 feet when the engine went silent, apparently losing a blower belt.

Left Lane: Cory Lee Runs 10.108/81.51, Now #5
Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 11.113/81.58, Now #6

Bode lost traction right off the starting line. Lee made it a little farther down track before he lost traction.

Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 5.024/303.30, Now #2
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 6.364/147.44, Now #5

HAddock with a good pass to start the weekend. Head lost traction just past half track.

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 9.831/91.26, Now #6
Right Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 4.907/315.56, Now #1

Bartone launched hard and was able to keep the Goodyears stuck all the way through the 1320. Arend clicked it off early.

Left Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 4.998/301.74, Now #2
Right Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 5.233/217.53, Now #4

Toliver got a little loose and was moving around from 900 feet on. Gilbertson with a good looking pass to got to the number two spot.

Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 5.024/303.30, Now #2
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 6.364/147.44, Now #4

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.905/316.38, Now #2
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 4.873/319.29, Now #1

a couple good looking passes fro the Skoal cars here to go to numbers one and two.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.837/313.07, Now #2
Right Lane: Phil Burkart Runs 4.789/323.43, Now #1

This was a good looking side-by-side drag race here. Both guys with quick 60-foot times.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.818/322.27, Now #2
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 10.936/82.93, Now #17

Wilkerson with problems right off the starting line and clicks it off. Pedregon with a good looking pass, Cruz has ben on a roll as of late.

Left Lane: Eric Medlen Runs 4.887/318.69, Now #6
Right Lane: Gary Densham Runs 4.824/293.35, Now #3

Medlen with a nice looking pass. Densham is moving around all the way down the track and then loses the engine on the top end and slows. Densham uses up one of his freebies.

Left Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 4.940/261.93, Now #10
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.803/323.81, Now #2

Bazemore was on a good looking pass and then started mixing up and then lost the engine. Bazemore will use up one of his freebies here. Worsham with a 0.883 60-foot time the same as Burkart. He just a tick behind his teammate for the number two spot.

Left Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 4.827/324.59, Now #5
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.840/323.97, Now #7

This was a good side-side drag race but only good enough for numbers five and seven.
