By Jim Samuel

MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 20th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Dave Northrop Runs 6.811/202.52, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.925/199.94, Was #10
Right Lane: David Strouse Jr. Runs 6.928/199.05, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.023/196.67, Was #12

Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 57 percent, barometer 29.71 inches, adjusted altitude 1,567 feet, track temperature 100 degrees.

Several Pro Stock drivers got to make a first session qualifying pass back in September. Those laps will count as qualifying efforts and everyone will get for qualifying attempts this weekend.

Northrup drifted a little to the right and toward the center line but he stayed with it to move into the top spot in the order. Strouse drifted a little to the left but was also able to move up one spot in the order. Bill Shorts is on the bubble with an 11.903-second bump time and it's pretty safe to assume that the bump time will be lowered in this session.

Left Lane: Bill Shorts Runs 7.010/184.25, Now #13; Best prior run: 11.903/64.59, Was #16
Right Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.799/203.49, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.904/199.35, Was #9

Shorts' 11.903-second bump time did not last long as he had a clean run to move up in the order. Benza had an even better pass and mov3ed up eight spots in the order. He's sitting in the top spot but with Greg Anderson, Dave Connolly and others waiting to make their first qualifying attempts, he probably won't stay there for long.

Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.783/201.91, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.905/199.88, Was #10
Right Lane: Fernando Cuadra Runs 6.803/202.12, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.609/137.15, Was #14

Benza's time at the top of the order was short because Watson came out in the very next pair of cars and took over the top spot in the order. Cuadra also had a nice pass and moved up 11 spots in the order.

Left Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.797/203.12, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.928/198.15, Was #13
Right Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 6.759/204.20, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.877/200.00, Was #10

Both drivers made nice passes right down the middle of their lanes. Pawuk moved up 10 spots in the order, Whisnant moved up nine spots and took over the number one position for now.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.734/204.08, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.729/123.80, Was #16
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.746/204.73, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.850/201.37, Was #7

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.725/204.48, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.855/200.59, Was #11
Right Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.713/205.51, Now #1; No Prior Run

Koretsky was outside the field when he staged for this pass. Another pair of good passes and this pair of drivers took over the top two spots in the order.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.783/203.34, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.852/200.89, Was #12
Right Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.754/204.48, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.856/201.25, Was #13

Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.774/205.32, Now #8; No Prior Run

Neither driver made a first-round qualifying pass. This time, both made nice runs to take their places in the field. Johns is in the number two spot for now, Coughlin in the number eight position. JR Carr is now on the bubble with a 6.903-second bump time.

Left Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.751/203.92, Now #7; No Prior Run

Two good runs. Morgan took over the second spot in the order, Allen moved into the seventh place.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.780/204.32, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.736/205.13, Now #6; No Prior Run

Johnson's car veered the left just as soon as he launched but he got it straightened out and put himself into the field. Line had a clean run to move into the sixth spot in the order.

Left Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 7.077/160.48, Now #24; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.726/204.98, Now #5; No Prior Run

Anderson is looking for his 14th win of the season, Connolly wants to solidify his hold on second place in the standings. Connolly launched fine but slowed at mid track. Anderson had a clean run but was only quick enough to take the fifth spot in the order. At the end of the second qualifying session, Kenney Koretsky is at the top of the order with an ET of 6.713 seconds and Ben Watson's on the bubble with a 6.783-second bump time.
