MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 20th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Jeff Veale Runs 5.639/251.30, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.643/254.81, Was #13
Right Lane: Mike Kosky No Time, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.526/257.38, Was #7

4:14 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.69 inches, adjusted altitude 1,567 feet, track temperature 96 degrees.

Kosky did his burnout and broke. Veale had a little bit of tire shake but drove through it.

Left Lane: Ken Winward Runs 5.784/250.23, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.749/230.25, Was #17
Right Lane: Paul Sylvester No Time, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.012/182.11, Was #18

Sylvester left before the tree was activated. Winward had a little tire shake and was not as quick as his first session time. He is still outside the field of 16.

Left Lane: John Finke Runs 5.551/258.07, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.188/203.34, Was #19
Right Lane: Mark Albert Runs 5.428/257.83, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.527/252.61, Was #8

Finke moved up nine spots in the order and pushed his way into the field with a clean run. Albert also had a good lap and moved up two spots in the order. Both drivers had their career best ETs and speed.

Left Lane: Jeff Bohr Runs 5.464/256.80, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.536/256.84, Was #9
Right Lane: Bruce Horner Runs 5.637/251.16, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.733/243.24, Was #17

Horner got bumped out of the field by Finke in the previous pair and needed to beat Rich McPhillips' bump time of 5.715 seconds to get back in.

He got the run he needed and moved into the number 14 spot for now. Bohr also had a good lap down the track and moved up two spots in the order. Bruce Insinger is on the bubble now with a bump time of 5.674 seconds.

Left Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 11.167/79.57, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.342/272.83, Was #2
Right Lane: Mike Burns Runs 5.566/250.00, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.566/249.95, Was #11

Reichert smoked the tires as soon as he launched, tried to pedal it and just cruised down the track. Burns had a clean run and duplicated his first session ET.

Left Lane: Dave DeAngelis Runs 5.501/259.01, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.613/255.43, Was #12
Right Lane: Bruce Insinger Runs 5.627/249.95, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.674/250.09, Was #16

DeAngelis chattered the tires but drove through it to lower his first session time by more than a tenth of a second and move up three spots in the order. Insinger had a clean run and moved up two spots and off the bubble. Jeff Veale's on the bubble now with a 5.639-second bump time.

Left Lane: Richard Bourke Runs 5.390/261.62, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.468/262.39, Was #8
Right Lane: Steven Cantrell Runs 5.540/253.04, Now #11; No Prior Run

Insinger left some oil on the track, so we had a 15-minute delay. This was a pair of good laps. Bourke moved up four spots in the order. Cantrell moved up nine spots to get into the field and bump Jeff Veale. Bruce Horner is on the bubble now with a bump time of 5.637 seconds.

Left Lane: Karen Benkovich Runs 5.545/253.47, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.619/250.64, Was #14
Right Lane: Ashley Force Runs 5.264/266.95, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.407/261.37, Was #5

Benkovich had some early tire shake but moved up four spots in the order. Force had a strong run to take over the top spot in the qualifying order for now.

Left Lane: Arthur Gallant Runs 12.112/60.05, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.334/265.69, Was #2
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 5.334/264.86, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.384/257.09, Was #4

Gallant had a hard launch and shook the tires, so he shut it down before he reached the 330-foot marker. Lucas had a strong run, moved up one spot in the order and drove through the shutdown area and into the sand.

Left Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.352/264.44, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.416/260.11, Was #6
Right Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.554/251.16, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.715/245.54, Was #18

Both drivers had some tire shake and both drove through it. Thacker moved up one spot in the order. McPhillips moved up four spots and made the field. After two qualifying sessions, Ashley Force is at the top of the order and Bruce Insinger is on the bubble with a 5.627-second bump time.
