With the NHRA POWERade season about to get into full swing,
I thought I’d give you folks something to think about, or talk about, or
speculate about over the next few days. According to my sources, there will be a
brand new Funny Car team announced by the beginning of next week. While I can’t
tell you exactly who the driver and sponsor will be, I can tell you that it
will involve the
Del Worsham team,
although it will not be a CSK sponsored car. I can also tell you that this new
entry into the FC wars will have everything it needs to compete at a
championship level, including proper funding, a full crew and a great (veteran)
driver, and no, it’s not
Cory Lee.
Speaking of that, the driver will be a guy who is familiar to a lot of race
fans, especially those who have been following the sport for more than just the
last decade, and he’ll be a welcome addition to the national event scene.
The sponsor will be a company that is completely
new to NHRA drag racing and it will be good for everyone. If all goes according
to plan, the new car should be on the track and the tour by the first Chicago
race.
I know a lot of times rumors go
around that never come to fruition, but I’m pretty sure that this is as close
to a “done deal” as you’re going to get. Stay tuned…more information as soon as
we get it…..Also, with the
Gary Scelzi
paint scheme that was just introduced by
Don
Schumacher and Mopar (Dodge), don’t be surprised to see that car company
get more involved in the sport in the near future. From what I hear, lots of
brass will be walking around the Gainesville track this week and they won’t be
there to see the Army part of Don’s team, if you know what I mean….And, pretty
soon, a very popular part-time team that competes on the NHRA Top Fuel tour
will be making an announcement about their future involvement, and it will also
be a very good announcement for the NHRA fans. And, while I can’t tell you
exactly which team it is, I can tell you that the deal is just about etched in
stone…or clay…or something close to that!! There, that ought to hold you until
Tuesday!!
