Weinle launched and the engine went silent, the car coasting slowly down the track. Maldonado was off the pace early in his run. Koretsky was slowly losing ground to half track, then slowed dramatically. That bumps Whisnant, putting Troy Coughlin on the bubble 6.846. Left Lane: Randy Daniels Runs 6.840/200.57, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.876/199.91, Was #32 Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.817/201.20, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.862/200.62, Was #27 Daniels and Edwards both stepped way up, bumping Coughlin and Scott Geoffrion. Now it's V. Gaines on the bubble with a 6.841. Nice pass by grant to put both his CXavaliers in the field, bumping Gaines. Now it's Randy Daniels in danger of being bumped, with a 6.840. Both got back in, Pawuk with a 1.007 n60-foot time and Troy a 0.999. Nice, smooth run by Pawuk to get safely in the top part of the field - and the Sun is now out, so conditions will go downhill from here on. That bumped Daniels and Jim Yates, putting Tom Martino on the bubble. Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.798/202.20, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.841/201.52, Was #19 Right Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 14.066/59.93, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.850/201.29, Was #24 Gaines made a great run, with a 0.999 60-foot time to start it all off. Lastor was also strong on the launch, a 1.003, but the engine hit the rev limiter hard and he slowed. That puts Gene Wilson on the bubble at 6.361. The track crew took a careful look at Alderman's lane, something dripping from Alderman's car, then made a couple of quick laps with the tractor.
