TOPEKA, Kan. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 15th annual O'Reilly NHRA Summer Nationals presented by Castrol GTX listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run: Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.514/133.99, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.914/312.64, Was #10 Right Lane: Dean Skuza Runs 4.966/301.81, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.807/109.77, Was #18 Current weather conditions: 70 degrees, 84 percent relative humidity, the barometer 29.95 inches under partly cloudy skies. Gray got out of the groove and then lost traction around 330 foot mark. Skuza was able to get the car to hook up and keep it stuck for his best pass of the weekend to get in the show for now. Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.876/315.42, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.442/137.23, Was #18 Right Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 6.371/146.15, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.953/292.65, Was #11 Gilbertson struck the tires right at half track and clicked it off. Cruz was able to get to hit on all eight through the 1320 and get in the show. That bumped Wyatt and put Cannon on the bubble. Left Lane: Keith Jackson Runs 8.767/92.21, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.186/259.51, Was #18 Right Lane: Jack Wyatt Runs 9.418/97.65, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.130/290.26, Was #17 Both of these guys are the two that are not qualified and they won't get in here. They both go up in smoke about 330 feet down track and shut it off. They each will have one more shot to get in the show. Right Lane: Scotty Cannon Runs 5.838/181.20, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.105/295.92, Was #16 Cannon dropped some cylinders right off the starting line on both sides of the engine. He never got them to pick back up and finally clicked it off around 1100 feet. He will stay on the bubble. Left Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 8.311/99.29, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.012/302.08, Was #15 Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 6.334/140.28, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.889/318.99, Was #10 Pedregon started to haze the tires just before the 330-foot cones and clicked it off. Worsham made to about half track before he lost traction and clicked it off. Left Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 5.758/168.56, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.867/321.27, Was #8 Right Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 4.854/321.73, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.833/323.35, Was #5 Bazemore was black tracking it all the way down the 1320.
