TOPEKA, Kan. - 5:30 PM - Just as the final pair of Top Fuel cars, Larry Dixon and Kenny Bernstein, was staging for their final qualifying run, a light rain started falling, shutting things down. The rain got heavier and all the cars in the lanes (Top Fuel and Funny Car) headed back to the pits. The rain stopped about five minutes ago and track drying is under way. However, based on earlier track drying experience today, the track won't be ready for at least two hours, more likely three. At this time, it is not clear whether both remaining Top Fuel cars, already qualified first and second, will return to run under nighttime conditions. In Funny car, however, the choice is clear since there are more cars here than slots on the ladder, so bumping is very likely, especially during a nighttime session. Stay tuned, we'll let you know if the situation changes.
