JOLIET, Ill. -- Jim Yates, driver of the Splitfire/Peak Pontiac Grand Am in the Pro Stock category, was in stable condition at the Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet. Yates did suffer a laceration on the chin area below his lip and doctors are keeping him at the hospital for further evaluation. According to Yates, his intentions are to compete in eliminations on Sunday. He is currently qualified in the No. 7 spot. Yates will need to receive medical clearance from the NHRA in order to compete.
