Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

HEBRON, Ohio - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 39th annual Pontiac Excitement Nationals presented by Summit Racing listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Jack Wyatt Runs 9.237/85.00, Now #17; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 5.156/291.07, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.167/242.15, Was #15

Current weather conditions: 76 degrees, 73 percent relative humidity, the barometer 30.05 inches, with a track temperature of 91 degrees.

Wyatt with his first pass of the weekend and he is up in smoke around the 330 foot mark. Gray was dropping some cylinders, but still picked up a little from yesterday.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.853/311.05, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.837/165.70, Was #16
Right Lane: Arnie Karp Runs 4.953/293.98, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.101/255.97, Was #14

Capps was right down the groove and keep the Goodyears stuck all the way down the 1320. Karp with a good solid pass here.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.955/290.82, Now #9; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 4.943/309.77, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.096/292.58, Was #15

Force was mixing up cylinders form half track on. Pedregon with a nice looking pass here.

Left Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 5.017/295.34, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.012/305.98, Was #14
Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 5.109/257.14, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.078/291.32, Was #16

No help for either of these two. Gilbertson was mixing up cylinders.

Left Lane: Scotty Cannon Runs 4.897/313.07, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.007/282.90, Was #12
Right Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 4.877/313.95, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.021/300.60, Was #15

Teammates to the top half of the field here. Both cars with the candles lit all the way through the 1320.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 7.252/118.42, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.001/293.03, Was #13
Right Lane: Dean Skuza Runs 4.892/307.30, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.009/300.26, Was #14

Cruz blisters the hides around 200 feet and clicks it off. skuza with a real good looking pass here.

Left Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 4.876/320.43, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.978/313.29, Was #13
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 5.523/181.11, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.935/303.57, Was #9

Scelzi was straight down the groove and with a big top end charge and the track speed record here.

Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 8.305/106.26, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.891/303.50, Was #5
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 9.410/81.70, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.934/298.60, Was #9

Both cars are up in smoke at the 330 foot mark.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.830/305.49, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.820/318.02, Was #1
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 5.953/156.05, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.900/313.00, Was #8

Worsham lost traction just past half and clicked it off. Pedregon with another great pass for the two quickest pass of the weekend in Funny Car.
