Pro Modified Qualifying Notes, Session #1

MADISON, Ill. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Seventh annual Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 6.377/219.15, Now #1
Right Lane: Frankie Taylor Runs 6.478/217.46, Now #2

Current weather conditions: 86 degrees, 36 percent relative humidity, the barometer 30.01 inches, with a track temperature of 122 degrees.

Taylor with a lot of tire shake.

Left Lane: Mike Stawicki Runs 7.055/218.83, Now #3
Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 12.600/86.70, Now #4

Hahn with tire shake and smoke right off the starting line. Stawicki rattled the tires right off the starting line.

Left Lane: Scott Ray Runs 10.947/97.01, Now #5
Right Lane: Zach Barklage Runs 6.363/221.42, Now #1

Barklage got a little loose around the 330-foot mark, but stayed with it. Ray lost traction.

Left Lane: Chip King Runs 7.716/125.04, Now #5
Right Lane: Mel Eaves Runs 8.903/107.23, Now #6

Eaves made a quick move toward the centerline and clicked it off. King got out of the groove and close to the wall.

Left Lane: Bill Hill Runs 6.549/215.24, Now #4
Right Lane: Bill Kuhlmann No Time, Now #10

Kuhlmann with violent tire shake right off the starting line and then got real loose. He was out of the groove close to the wall and then darted back across the track. He hit the left hand wall almost head on very hard. So hard it lifted the back end into the air and burst into flames. It bounced back off the wall and back across the lanes and came to a stop against the right hand wall, still burning. The Safety Safari was right there to get the fire out. Kuhlmann was out of the car and it appears he is okay.

Left Lane: Tim McAmis Runs 8.793/104.02, Now #8
Right Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 6.448/221.52, Now #3

Ashley was a little loose in the middle of the track. McAmis got out of the groove and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Wayne Torkelson Runs 6.669/215.27, Now #7
Right Lane: Johnny Rocca Runs 6.386/220.37, Now #3

Rocca with a nice pass here. Torkelson stayed with it to get the show for now.

Left Lane: Marty McGinnis Runs 6.740/214.21, Now #9
Right Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.343/220.58, Now #1

Smith with the quickest 60-foot time of the session and E.T. so far.

Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 6.365/218.44, Now #3
Right Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 11.240/80.49, Now #17

Good pass for Castellana here and the bump is now Taylor.

Left Lane: Rick Stivers Runs 7.178/201.28, Now #13

Stivers is real loose, but on and off the throttle a couple times.
