Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

MADISON, Ill. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Seventh annual Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Cory Lee Runs 10.800/77.61, Now #17; No Prior Run

Current weather conditions: 78 degrees, 55 percent relative humidity, the barometer 30.00 inches, with a track temperature of 92 degrees.

Lee running the second Creasy family car with Dale Sr calling the tuning shots. They didn't make a pass earlier today. Lee is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle.

Left Lane: Jack Wyatt Runs 12.273/93.41, Now #19; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Vinny Arcadi Runs 9.094/92.45, Now #17; No Prior Run

Wyatt is up in smoke as soon as he hit throttle. Arcadi starts to blister the hides and got real close to the centerline before he clicked it off.

Left Lane: Arnie Karp Runs 5.056/289.63, Now #1; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 7.244/114.36, Now #17; Best prior run: 12.441/76.60, Was #20

Pedregon starts to lose traction pedals it around 330 feet and is back up in smoke by half track. Karp got out of the groove on the top end, but stayed with it for the number one spot for now.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.898/313.80, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.579/136.80, Was #12
Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 6.467/150.48, Now #14; Best prior run: 8.016/124.94, Was #16

Cruz with a great looking pass here to go to the top of the list.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.929/312.50, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.733/225.00, Was #12
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 5.003/285.29, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.099/123.98, Was #17

Tony was able to get it to hook up and keep hitting on all eight on on this pass while Wilkerson was right behind him.

Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 4.889/316.97, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.528/199.67, Was #13
Right Lane: Dean Skuza Runs 4.893/308.85, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.002/127.19, Was #17

The best drag race of the weekend so far with side-by-side runs with the header flames shooting over the roof.

Left Lane: Scotty Cannon Runs 4.942/301.40, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.381/247.93, Was #14
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 5.880/164.83, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.640/137.30, Was #17

Haddock got real close to the centerline and shut it off. Cannon with nice clean pass to jump up into the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 6.362/143.25, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.216/272.01, Was #7
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.955/292.58, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.389/141.28, Was #11

Gilbertson started to lose traction and clicked it off. About half track Gray got out of the groove and then had a big boomer with a huge fireball. The car was on fire for a long time and he got to a stop and the Safety Safari was right on the spot. Gray is out of the car and okay.

Left Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 4.913/316.01, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.142/288.15, Was #14
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.959/297.22, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.107/277.72, Was #12

Scelzi with a good looking pass straight down Broadway. Force was a little loose on the top end.

Left Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 8.782/96.60, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.111/269.29, Was #14
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 8.842/93.27, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.088/296.05, Was #13

Both cars were up in smoke around 200 feet.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.964/305.84, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.087/291.07, Was #12
Right Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 4.909/314.31, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.079/288.39, Was #11

Bazemore with a nice pass here and Capps had a real quick 60 foot time, but fell off on the top end to wrap up day one of Funny Car.
