Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #2

MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 19th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Bob Benza Runs 7.418/138.68, Now #22; No Prior Run

Current weather conditions: 53 degrees, 81 percent relative humidity, the barometer 29.75 inches under cloudy skies.

Benza with a quick move out of the gate and then got real loose around half track and he clicked it off. He will have one more shot to get in the show.

Left Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.782/202.61, Now #3; Best prior run: 11.895/73.44, Was #30
Right Lane: Barry Grant Runs 6.846/202.70, Now #14; Best prior run: 15.840/52.35, Was #31

Connolly with a 0.998 second 60-foot time and got it to stick all the way down the 1320 to get in the show. Grant gets in and they bumped out WJ and V. Gaines.

Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.770/202.21, Now #2; Best prior run: 8.930/104.91, Was #30
Right Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 24.305/31.10, Now #31; Best prior run: 8.984/100.73, Was #31

Whisnant with violent tire shake as soon as he let the clutch out and clicks it off. Troy with a great looking pass to slide into the ladder right behind his brother.

Left Lane: Bill Shorts Runs 12.687/60.66, Now #25; Best prior run: 7.295/171.62, Was #24
Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.857/199.43, Now #17; Best prior run: 8.917/98.64, Was #30

Pawuk with a quick 60-foot time of 0.987 seconds, but then gave it up on the other end of the track, and will have one more shot to get in the show. Shorts had problems early.

Left Lane: David Strouse Jr. Runs 6.936/198.73, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.912/198.70, Was #21
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.806/203.68, Now #7; Best prior run: 8.861/107.26, Was #30

Johnson was conservative off the starting line and then had the big top end charge. No help here for Strouse.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.836/201.16, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.894/201.10, Was #21
Right Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.780/202.70, Now #3; Best prior run: 8.316/118.12, Was #30

Marnell with a 0.996-second 60-foot time and he parlayed that into a career best to get him into the top half of the show. Gaines gets in the show and they bumped out Martino and Grant.

Left Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.817/202.18, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.845/200.86, Was #17
Right Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.782/202.82, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.699/147.36, Was #30

Allen with the quickest 60-foot time of the session a 0.985 second and he will get into the top half of the show. Martino with John Nobile is helping Martino this weekend and they get in the show for now.

Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.822/201.10, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.842/200.77, Was #18
Right Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.780/202.85, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.425/144.61, Was #30

Koretsky with a good looking pass and Watson sneaks into the show as they bump out Gaines and Taylor.

Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.782/202.55, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.839/201.55, Was #19
Right Lane: Steve Johns Runs 6.929/202.79, Now #26; Best prior run: 7.238/150.82, Was #28

Yates with a good looking pass to get in the show and that bumped out Watson. Johnson with problems right off the starting line.

Left Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 6.851/201.85, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.839/202.45, Was #19
Right Lane: Jim Cunningham Runs 7.028/195.45, Now #27; Best prior run: 7.214/191.57, Was #28

No help for either of these two.

Left Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 6.784/203.31, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.822/202.42, Was #16
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.792/203.80, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.888/199.91, Was #24

Wilson moves up the ladder and WJ gets into the show and that bumps out Martino.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.783/202.30, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.803/201.91, Was #12
Right Lane: Scott Geoffrion Runs 6.793/203.19, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.848/202.00, Was #22

Geoffrion gets in the show and that bumps out Allen Johnson.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.811/202.55, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.802/203.06, Was #13
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.773/203.09, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.814/202.18, Was #17

Krisher made quick move toward the wall, but reeled it back in and got into the show with this pass. Johnson with a nice 0.988 second 60-foot time and he gets back into the show and that bumps out Alderman.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.743/204.39, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.781/203.65, Was #6
Right Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.781/202.94, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.813/202.00, Was #17

Anderson with a great looking pass to set both ends of the track record here. Alderman gets back into the show, the top half of the show and that bumps out Morgan.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.803/202.27, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.760/203.03, Was #2
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.758/204.29, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.807/202.82, Was #17

Morgan who just got bumped out gets back in with a nice looking pass to move everybody back a spot but Anderson. That makes all four of the factory Mopars in the field. That wraps up this session and the sun is trying to make an appearance at Maple Grove Raceway.
