Pro Modified Qualifying Notes, Session #1

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 18th annual O'Reilly Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Scott Ray Runs 6.376/220.58, Now #1
Right Lane: Dan Rowe Runs 6.452/212.86, Now #2

1:56 PM Current weather conditions: 76 degrees, 64 percent relative humidity, the barometer 29.84 inches, with a track temperature of 98 degrees.

Pretty good opening runs by both drivers, but those times amy not make it through this round.

Left Lane: Wayne Torkelson Runs 11.657/75.56, Now #4
Right Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 6.367/222.55, Now #1

Torkelson gets out of shape right off the line, makes a move toward the wall and aborts the run. Patterson goes right down the groove and takes the early pole.

Left Lane: Frankie Taylor Runs 6.370/220.58, Now #3
Right Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.296/224.21, Now #1

Taylor spins the tires off the line, gets the slicks to bite about 60 feet out, and he makes a decent run. Smith goes right down the groove and takes the pole.

Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 6.326/221.07, Now #2
Right Lane: Marty McGinnis Runs 6.586/213.37, Now #7

A good run for Castellana, right down the groove, and he gets in the second spot for now. McGinnis gets in but he may not survive this round.

Left Lane: Fred Hahn Runs 6.427/221.45, Now #6
Right Lane: Bill Hill Runs 6.449/215.62, Now #7

Both cars move around a little all the way through the run.

Left Lane: Dennis Radford Runs 6.381/220.91, Now #6
Right Lane: Troy Critchley Runs 10.164/62.70, Now #11

Critchley shakes the tires hard, the chutes come out about 150 feet out and he gives up on the run around half-track. Radford gets in and bumps out Dan Rowe.

Left Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 6.401/223.32, Now #8
Right Lane: Al Billes Runs 6.391/222.16, Now #7

Stott started moving around early, drifted toward the wall, but he hangs on to get in on the bump for now. Billes was moving around a little early in the run but gets it straightened out around half-track.

Left Lane: Von Smith Runs 6.333/227.04, Now #4
Right Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 6.270/223.38, Now #1

Two good runs, Jenkins going to the top of the list.

Left Lane: Kirk Kuhns Runs 6.387/224.66, Now #10
Right Lane: Tim McAmis Runs 6.379/222.99, Now #8

A couple of decent runs, both right down the groove, but Kuhns doesn't get in and McAmis probably won't make it through the round.

Left Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 6.427/220.26, Now #14

Ashley was a little loose early in the run and he won't make the field this round, so McAmis is safe until the next qualifying session.
