Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #3

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Third annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Right Lane: Dave Northrop Runs 7.018/196.87, Now #29; Best prior run: 7.022/196.36, Was #29

12:30 p.m. We saw some improvement in the Pro Stock Bike ranks, so that bodes well for the Pro Stock car teams who are not qualified. It is very windy today, and it's a straight-on head wind.

Northrop picks up a hundredth, but stays out of the field.

Left Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 6.915/200.11, Now #5; Best prior run: 8.772/136.02, Was #31
Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 13.118/63.29, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.969/197.22, Was #21

Great run for Wilson as he picks up 26 spots on the qualifying order. He was 1.026 at 60 feet.

Left Lane: Jose Maldonado Runs 7.032/197.19, Now #31; Best prior run: 7.034/197.28, Was #31
Right Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 6.974/197.97, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.967/198.15, Was #21

No help for either driver. The bump stays at 6.952.

Left Lane: Jerry Haas Runs 7.001/197.97, Now #29; Best prior run: 7.012/197.97, Was #29
Right Lane: Fernando Cuadra Runs 6.978/198.00, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.966/198.61, Was #20

They both had fairly good 60-foot times, 1.028 for Haas and 1.025 for Cuadra, but fell off the pace after that.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.963/197.54, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.999/198.55, Was #28
Right Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.969/198.35, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.961/199.08, Was #19

Gaines improves but it's not enough as he misses by 11 thousandths.

Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.995/197.05, Now #28; Best prior run: 6.994/197.05, Was #28
Right Lane: Mike Corvo Jr Runs 6.918/198.73, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.956/198.20, Was #17

Corvo was in until Wilson bumped him. He gets back in with a great run. Good to see the Motown Missile making noise this weekend.

Left Lane: Bo Nickens Runs 9.583/96.16, Now #27; Best prior run: 6.993/197.65, Was #27
Right Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.948/198.26, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.948/198.73, Was #16

Koretsky is on the bump at 6.948. He still is, although he shows bracket-like consistency on this run. Nickens was out of it before 330.

Left Lane: Scott Geoffrion Runs 6.940/198.50, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.986/198.12, Was #26
Right Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.928/198.90, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.942/198.88, Was #15

Both teams improve, as Geoffrion gets in on the bump.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.973/198.26, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.985/198.73, Was #26
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.979/198.41, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.937/199.37, Was #14

WJ is down to his last chance now, as he continues to struggle. Just a 1.041 60-foot time.

Left Lane: Barry Grant Runs 6.933/199.61, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.974/198.93, Was #26
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.959/198.88, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.933/198.50, Was #12

No help for Jeggie, but Grant gets in, lowering the bump to a 6.939.

Left Lane: Nick Fratt Runs 6.932/200.17, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.959/199.02, Was #20
Right Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.887/200.00, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.930/198.55, Was #11

Big-time improvement for both drivers. Allen goes to the pole and Fratt bumps Lastor.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.932/198.76, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.952/197.86, Was #20
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.882/200.41, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.923/200.14, Was #9

Two more drivers get what they want, as Line takes over the top spot. Krisher puts Morgan on the bump at 6.934.

Left Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 6.911/199.70, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.939/198.90, Was #18
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.925/199.20, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.918/199.02, Was #8

Lastor puts Jeg Coughlin on the bump with a fine run. No help for Edwards, but a good run nonetheless.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.911/199.91, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.934/199.35, Was #17
Right Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.921/199.05, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.912/199.17, Was #7

Morgan just got bumped by Lastor, but not for long. Morgan's runs bumps Jeg Coughlin, which means that WJ and Jeg are not in going into the last session.

Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.902/198.47, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.924/198.70, Was #12
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.942/199.05, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.900/198.93, Was #4

Barry Grant is on the bump at 6.933. Yates had a blistering 1.009 short time and that leads to a two-hundredths e.t. improvement.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.886/199.88, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.904/199.58, Was #6
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.892/200.08, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.891/200.44, Was #3

Anderson has dropped two spots since the beginning of this session. Make that three, as KJ picks up a couple of hundredths and slides in behind Line.
