Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Final Session

LAS VEGAS - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Third annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Dave Northrop Runs 7.006/197.31, Now #30; Best prior run: 7.018/196.87, Was #30

4:19 p.m. The bump is Barry Grant at 6.933, and Warren Johnson and Jeg Coughlin are not in.

Northrop continues to improve, but he will not qualify.

Left Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.940/198.12, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.969/197.22, Was #25
Right Lane: Jose Maldonado Runs 7.012/197.71, Now #31; Best prior run: 7.032/197.19, Was #31

Both drivers improve, and Pawuk just misses.

Left Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 6.947/198.35, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.967/198.15, Was #25
Right Lane: Jerry Haas Runs 16.917/45.98, Now #29; Best prior run: 7.001/197.97, Was #29

Haas was 1.019 at 60 feet, but the car moved around and he had to shut it off. Whisnant gives it a shot, but he falls short.

Left Lane: Fernando Cuadra Runs 6.978/198.61, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.966/198.61, Was #25
Right Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.986/196.73, Now #27; Best prior run: 6.994/197.05, Was #28

Watson makes his best run of the weekend, but it's not enough.

Left Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.924/199.85, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.961/199.08, Was #23
Right Lane: Bo Nickens Runs 9.292/101.31, Now #28; Best prior run: 6.993/197.65, Was #28

Great pass by Marnell, and the local runner gets in with a clutch performance.

Left Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.933/199.02, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.948/198.73, Was #23
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.956/198.32, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.973/198.26, Was #26

WJ has never suffered two DNQs in one season, but he's on the verge here. The bump is 6.932.

A little wiggle early costs WJ, and Koretsky misses by a thousandth.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.929/199.37, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.937/199.37, Was #20
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.961/197.86, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.963/197.54, Was #25

Johnson is the sixth Dodge in the field (for now). Gaines with his best run of the event, but he will not play on Sunday.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.887/199.82, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.933/198.50, Was #20
Right Lane: Scott Geoffrion Runs 6.936/198.85, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.940/198.50, Was #21

Blistering pass by Coughlin to get in the show. As with many of the other teams, Geoffrion makes his best pass of the event but to no avail.

Left Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.930/198.76, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.928/198.90, Was #15
Right Lane: Barry Grant Runs 6.909/198.82, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.933/199.61, Was #19

Grant gets back in, and puts Alderman on the bump at 6.928.

Left Lane: Mike Corvo Jr Runs 6.921/198.67, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.918/198.73, Was #14
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.908/199.23, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.932/198.76, Was #19

Krisher bumps Alderman, puts Marnell on the bump, and Corvo makes a good pass but does not improve.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.923/198.52, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.918/199.02, Was #14
Right Lane: Nick Fratt Runs 6.912/199.97, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.932/200.17, Was #19

Fratt is the only guy left who is not currently in. Not anymore, as he bumps Marnell and puts Corvo on the bump.

Left Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.926/199.43, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.912/199.17, Was #13
Right Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 14.882/96.33, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.915/200.11, Was #14

Wilson had all kinds of problems, and Connolly does not improve.

Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.926/198.90, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.900/198.93, Was #6
Right Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 6.938/198.70, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.911/199.70, Was #11

Nothing changes for these two.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.866/200.44, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.891/200.44, Was #5
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.931/199.67, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.911/199.91, Was #10

Anderson shows everyone how it's done, as he lays down the best run of the event, and a track e.t. record.

Left Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.898/199.35, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.887/200.00, Was #4
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.929/198.67, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.902/198.47, Was #7

Allen with a 1.012 short time, but no help at the big end.

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 14.350/57.37, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.882/200.41, Was #2
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.904/199.70, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.886/199.88, Was #3

Line clicks it early, KJ does not improve, and the KB Racing team will occupy the top two spots going into Sunday.
