Pro Stock Bike Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Darryl Jackman

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Bike at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 39th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Jay Matthews Runs 7.311/181.35, Now #1
Right Lane: Josh Helvie Runs 7.573/155.33, Now #2

1:59 PM The Pro session just about on time. The Safari did a quick sweep of the starting area and the bikes are told to light 'em up. Matthews is is the quicker in this pair but I don't think either time is going to hold up. I might be wrong, it's been known to happen.

Left Lane: Kurt Matte Runs 7.730/169.10, Now #4
Right Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.335/182.28, Now #2

Matte had a lot of smoke out of the Buell at about 3rd gear. Schnitz gets a clean pass.

Right Lane: Redell Harris Runs 19.540/29.96, Now #5

Harris goes right to the chip as the bike launches. He shuts off quickly and then just coasts down the track shaking his head left and right. That was one that got away.

Left Lane: Keith Freeman Runs 7.479/177.39, Now #4
Right Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.248/182.85, Now #1

DeSantis to the top spot early in qualifying. Freeman gets a baseline.

Left Lane: Fred Camarena Runs 7.350/182.08, Now #5
Right Lane: Blaine Hale Runs 7.334/180.86, Now #3

Not much to choose from between these two.

Left Lane: Sean Conner Runs 7.243/183.87, Now #1
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.292/183.12, Now #3

Conner takes over the top spot from DeSantis. Johnson to #3.

Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.281/180.45, Now #3
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.300/180.98, Now #5

Stoffer gets a little out of the groove but still gets a thirty. Phillips is well into the show.

Left Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.201/184.72, Now #2
Right Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.188/185.46, Now #1

Now that's better. Better is the new leader of the pack and Tonglet is right behind him.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.136/186.02, Now #1
Right Lane: Fred Collis Runs 7.187/185.92, Now #2

We now have a Harley leading the field. Collis is now the #2 rider.

Left Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.119/181.91, Now #1
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.223/184.65, Now #6

That top spot is falling fast new. Treble must really like Matt Hines ride. Brown is top half.

Left Lane: Reggie Showers Runs 7.231/180.96, Now #8
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.185/186.43, Now #3

Showers is top half for the moment. Gann makes a nice pass and will most likely stay top half.

Left Lane: Angelle Savoie Runs 7.199/185.87, Now #7
Right Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.135/187.70, Now #2

Scali almost takes the top spot away from Treble but falls a couple of hundredths short. Angelle gets a baseline and come back tomorrow for the second shot at the Pomona surface. Qualifying ends with Treble on top and Matthews on the bump.
