GRAND BEND, Ont. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Mopar Parts Pro Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 3rd annual Mopar Performance Parts Canadian Nationals presented by Castrol listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Gary Irving Runs 6.983/187.57, Now #15; No Prior Run Right Lane: Alan Pittman Runs 6.373/217.91, Now #3; No Prior Run Pittman had a little tire shake and was able to drive through it to get into the number three spot for now. Irving spun the tires on the starting line. Left Lane: Carl Spiering Runs 6.301/225.00, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.519/222.05, Was #10 Right Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 10.808/76.58, Now #17; No Prior Run Jenkins with another big nitrous bang around 300 feet. Spiering was real loose off the starting line and out of the groove, but stayed with it to take the number one spot for now. Left Lane: Fred Hahn Runs 6.347/223.54, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.488/218.18, Was #9 Right Lane: Steve Vick Runs 6.388/218.87, Now #6; No Prior Run Hahn with tire spin and then some tire shake, but drove through it for the number four spot. Vick was right there with Hahn. Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 10.218/76.54, Now #19; Best prior run: 13.263/64.17, Was #20 Right Lane: Larry Sinke Runs 6.621/206.65, Now #15; No Prior Run Castellana with problems early in the run and clicked it off. Sinke got in the show for now. Left Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.340/223.10, Now #4; Best prior run: 16.994/51.97, Was #22 Right Lane: Paul Athey Runs 8.504/86.13, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.605/209.10, Was #14 Athey lifted the left front tire as he launched hard and then around 300 feet he had a violent nitrous explosion. The front end of the car disintegrated with fiberglass flying everywhere. Stott with a good pass in the other lane to get into the top half of the field. Left Lane: Al Billes Runs 10.411/93.17, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.421/215.51, Was #8 Right Lane: Mark Nielsen Runs 6.428/219.61, Now #10; Best prior run: 8.026/108.32, Was #19 Billes was real loose right off the starting line and made a move toward the guardrail before he clicked it off. Nielsen got in the show with this pass. Left Lane: Kasey Janzen Runs 6.639/216.91, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.524/215.77, Was #14 Right Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 6.346/220.75, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.468/218.97, Was #12 Hoover made a quick move toward the centerline, but stayed with it to get into the top half of the field. No help for Janzen as he shook the tires right off the starting line. Left Lane: Tony Pontieri Runs 6.770/205.19, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.567/215.56, Was #15 Right Lane: Troy Critchley Runs 6.397/217.33, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.425/219.78, Was #10 No help for Pontieri, and Critchley moved ahead of Billes with this pass. Left Lane: Mike Lockwood Runs 6.449/220.04, Now #12; Best prior run: 10.950/94.34, Was #22 Right Lane: Brian Daniels Runs 6.522/216.60, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.726/215.10, Was #18 Daniels got out of the groove and real close to the guardrail, but stayed with it to get in the show. Lockwood with a good looking pass to get into the show and that bumped out Tony Pontieri. Left Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 6.225/227.21, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.301/224.88, Was #2 Right Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 11.696/64.35, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.518/217.75, Was #14 These two did their burnouts and then were shut off because they found oil in Daniels lane. That might explain why he was so loose. Well after about a 50 minute clean up we are back. The delay has allowed for the sun to get off the track and the track temperature has dropped about 20 degrees.
It paid off for Stott as he was straight down the groove with a great pass to take
the number one spot. Patterson was out of the groove early. Left Lane: Roy Wasko Runs 6.419/219.13, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.450/212.61, Was #13 Right Lane: Raymond Commiso Runs 6.730/187.30, Now #20; No Prior Run Commiso got close to the centerline, but stayed with it. Wasko was loose but stayed with it to move up three spots. Left Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.302/222.55, Now #3; No Prior Run Janis had a lot of tire shake in the earlier session, and was on a pretty good pass here until the engine started eating up pistons on the top end.
