Muldowney to Race Special Peanuts-themed Entry

LAS VEGAS -- Three-time NHRA Top Fuel dragster champion Shirley Muldowney will compete at the NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Oct. 24-27 in a special Peanuts-themed entry.

Muldowney, who only competed in five NHRA national events in 2002, has Las chosen Vegas as one of those dates. Her car, sponsored by souvenir die-cast manufacturer Action Performance and Mac Tools, will carry a Peanuts theme – featuring the character Lucy – from the late Charles Schulz's famous comic strip.

While not a stranger to drag racing in Las Vegas, Muldowney never has competed at The Strip at LVMS.

"We've never been to the new track, so we're all excited," said Muldowney. "I hear it's the best racetrack on the circuit. We've run match races at the old track (Las Vegas Speedway Park). I'm pretty sure I hold both ends of the record at the old track, so we're pretty accustomed to the (weather and altitude) conditions in Las Vegas. Our car's running well. We're pretty happy with the combination we have and the results. Our problem is that we don't get a chance to make many runs. Every time we go to the starting line we try to run as quick and as fast as we can.

"As a city, Las Vegas is wonderful. I enjoy it. Las Vegas is a long way from Michigan, but I'm looking forward to it. It will be our last race of the year."
