POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Bike at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 38th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Jerry Jankanish Runs 7.419/174.82, Now #2
Right Lane: Sean Conner Runs 7.319/183.52, Now #1

1:36 PM It's 68 degrees, 43 percent relative humidity, the barometer 30.05 and steady, under overcast skies.

Professional qualifying opens with career-best elapsed times in both lanes, the conditions excellent.

Left Lane: Redell Harris Runs 7.366/181.25, Now #2
Right Lane: Jay Matthews No Time, Now #4

Matthews rolled the beams for no time. Good opening pass for Harris.

Right Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.475/171.62, Now #4

The V-Rod left hard with a 1.11 60-foot time, but laid down on the top end of the run

Left Lane: Scott Lewis Runs 7.351/177.30, Now #3
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.267/184.19, Now #1

Another career-best run, this one by Stoffer, but she went off the end of the track. The bike barely slowed and she want through the sand at high speed. She laid the bike down before reaching the net, but her momentum carried her into the net. The net stopped her, but she ended up on the other side of the net after taking out one of the breakaway poles. She was conscious and talking with the safety crew, but was transported for evaluation.

Left Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.406/175.52, Now #6
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.233/185.97, Now #1

DeSantis had problems on the top end of the run. Hines left hard, with a 1.115 60-foot time, and went to the top of the heap.

Left Lane: Chris Reuter Runs 10.324/81.29, Now #10
Right Lane: Fred Camarena Runs 7.310/182.33, Now #3

Reuter had problems around the 330-foot marker and abandoned the run. Good run by Camarena.

Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.238/180.31, Now #2
Right Lane: Thomas Miceli No Time, Now #12

Miceli broke after the burnout and Phillips and made a nice solo pass, just 0.001 seconds slower than his career best.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 8.331/116.05, Now #12
Right Lane: John Smith Runs 7.284/183.22, Now #4

Johnson trails Smith by 33 points for ninth in the championship chase. If he has hopes of catching him, he'll have to step up a bunch, his bike slow off the starting line.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.311/181.62, Now #7
Right Lane: Reggie Showers Runs 7.276/184.75, Now #4

Two clean runs...

Left Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.208/181.42, Now #2
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.183/185.87, Now #1

Two nice runs to reset the top of the field.

Left Lane: Matt Hines Runs 7.193/188.38, Now #2
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.284/185.51, Now #8

Hines spun the tire hard and Brown's bike was also slow in the first 60 feet, the bike all over the first part of the lane.

Left Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.194/180.79, Now #4
Right Lane: Angelle Savoie Runs 7.183/185.87, Now #2

Savoie matches Gann on both elapsed time and speed, so he gets the top spot because he ran it first.
