POMONA, Calif. - 7:45 Saturday morning and there's a foggy drizzle over the L.A. County Fairplex. The weather forecasters are a bit vague on just when this mess should move out of here. NHRA officials are trying to get the curfew changed to 9:00 PM tonight, just in case this stuff lifts, but neither is guaranteed to happen. All in all, it's a bad situation with no good solution. Race officials were lucky to get one round of everything down the track Thursday and it's been raining since then. If the wet weather sticks around until late this afternoon, it's a sure bet we'll still be running cars on Monday. If we do get any racing in today, Pro qualifying and the Bud Shootout will have the priority for track time. If the Pro categories go into eliminations with just one round of qualifying, there are special rules that come into play: if there isn't a second qualifying session, the current top ten in points are guaranteed a spot in the field as long as they have made a qualifying run. That means there would be some bumping in each of the four Pro eliminators in order to set the ladders for eliminations. Nobody wants that to happen, but NHRA officials are determined to complete Pro-category eliminations on Sunday. Stay tuned, we'll let you know what happens as soon as any event schedule decisions are official.
