POMONA, Calif. -- Wes Cerny will take over the crew chief duties for the United States Army Top Fuel dragster effective with the start of the 2003 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series season, it was announced here today.

Cerny, who has directed the efforts of Top Fuel driver Cory McClenathan throughout the 2002 season, will now move over to oversee Tony “The Sarge” Schumacher’s Army dragster.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to work for Don Schumacher Racing,” said Cerny, who hails from Fallbrook, Calif. “I consider this a step up and am already looking forward to next year.”

Cerny replaces Dan Olson, who will now be a co-crew chief for all three of Schumacher Racing’s cars. In addition to the Army dragster, Schumacher Racing fields the Matco Tools Funny Car, as well as the Oakley Funny Car.

“We’re very happy to have Wes on board,” said team owner Don Schumacher. “We’re also happy that Dan will stay on. We now have four quality crew chiefs with a lot of experience. That’s always beneficial.”
