After searching high and low the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association is
pleased to announce the latest addition to our family with the new editor of
the Goodguys Goodtimes Gazette, Jim Aust. Our new scribe is 35 years old and
married with three “little rodders.” While we were checking him out we have
found that Jim has been studying and stashing every car magazine he could
get his hands on since he was three (now well-over 10 thousand!), and people
that know him say don’t try to challenge him in a contest of “automobile
trivia” because he’s some kind of walking encyclopedia of hot rods.
Gazette readers may already know Jim from his work with Petersen’s “Sport
Truck,” as well as his recent excellent work in “The Rodder’s Journal.” His
interests include everything that rumbles and rolls, and a few of his own
“hands-on” hot rod projects include a flathead powered ’32 Ford Cabriolet, a
ground hugging ’56 F-100, and multiple ’67-’72 Chevy pickups (including his
well-known “Circus Wagon” ’68 shortbed). Currently Jim has gathered most of
the pieces to build himself a ’27 Ford Model T Touring that will represent
the true roots of “street rodding.” He hopes to have his latest all-steel, ’
57 283-powered, Skylark wire wheeled car on the road this summer, and DRIVE
it to as many Goodguys events as possible.
Jim is very excited about his new position at the Gazette and he has big
plans to broaden the editorial content and the visual package. He looks
forward to receiving press information from the motorsports world. He also
looks forward to meeting all the people at the Goodguys events and snapping
pictures of their beautiful rides. Make sure to say “hi” when you see him,
and we think you’re really going to enjoy what he has to say.
