Mon, 16 Dec 2002, 12:19 PM Moroso $25,000 Grand Champion Program Returns for Fifth IHRA Season in 2003

NORWALK, Ohio -- IHRA has announced Moroso Performance will return as sponsor of the Moroso Grand Championship in 2003. The program awards cash to Sportsman drivers accumulating points at Hooters IHRA National Events and Holley Pro Am divisional races. A purse of $25,000 will be distributed to the top ten racers at season’s end.

"We are pleased the Moroso Grand Championship returns for a fifth season with IHRA," stated Vice President of Marketing Aaron Polburn. "Dave Melillo (Senior Director Marketing/Sales) and the team at Moroso have put together a terrific program that personifies the spirit of IHRA Sportsman drag racing and puts hard cash in their pockets."

Points are earned at all national events and the first five scheduled races in your announced division. Points are awarded to racers using Moroso Blue Max Ignition Wires and Moroso Oil Pans. Stock racers may substitute Moroso valve covers for oil pans. To be eligible, racers must register for the program and display a special Moroso Grand Champion Decal on each side of the car.

IHRA Classes eligible to participate in the program are Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Quick Rod, Super Rod, Hot Rod, Super Stock and Stock. Parity points are earned from eight finals (16 cars) and down, guaranteeing the top ten sportsman racers are crowned, regardless of class.

The purse breakout is 1st $10,000, 2nd $5000, 3rd $3,000, 4th $2,000, 5th $1,500,6th $900, 7th $800, 8th $700, 9th $600 and 10th $500.
