ENNIS, Mont. -- Top Fuel owner John Mitchell has signed Larry Frazier to assist in tuning the Paul Romine-driven CARQUEST Auto Parts Top Fuel dragster for the 2003 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing season. Frazier most recently was the assistant crew chief for Top Fuel competitor Doug Herbert.

"(Larry) Frazier's record speaks for itself," says Paul Romine, who made his driving debut for John Mitchell at the 2002 NHRA AAA Finals in Pomona, Calif. "I got to know him when I drove for Doug (Herbert) and he brings a lot of experience and leadership to our CARQUEST / Montana Express team. I think with him working with John (Mitchell), we'll have a good tune-up that can be competitive in 2003."

Frazier, who began drag racing in 1962, has spent many years as a crew chief. He's also served as team owner, team manager and tuner. He filled the positions of crew chief and assistant crew chief during three-plus years working with Doug Herbert. Herbert won the NHRA's 50th Anniversary race at Pomona, Calif., in 2001 and events at Topeka, Kan. and Memphis in 1999 with Frazier as the tuner. In the past, Frazier had worked for many of the top drag racing teams such as John Force, Cruz Pedregon, Randy Anderson and Connie and Scott Kalitta.
